Going to beat the heat and grab my favorite 19 kHz machine.

That would be my FORS Relic, of course, and equipped with the 5" DD I loaded it and some gear in my rig a few minutes ago to head out very early. My Nokta Relic is, by far, my favorite 19 kHz detector and easily out-handles the competition at/near that frequency. Going to try and beat the heat and get to a former CCC Camp and Japanese Internment site by sun-up while it's still cooler. They forecast another day at or close to 100°.

Then Friday or Saturday OregonGregg & I are heading to one or two Gold Mining Townsites by sun-up. Pickings are thin but they both have potential if you can handle the dense ferrous debris and the Nokta CoRe and Relic can. I especially like my Relic in the really dense locations of rusty tin shards and square nails, and it will be fun because Oregon Gregg has a Relic ... but hasn't used it yet. I think he's put it off because due to the different operating frequency and Ferrous/Non-Ferrous break-point the numeric VDI's are going to be different from his most-use CoRe and Racer 2. I'm sure that after a few hours with the Relic -- ONLY -- he'll be more comfortable with it and appreciate the Ferrous Volume that his CoRe lacks.

We've had a very hot summer but I think those many triple-digit days are done for the year and I'm looking forward to the arrival of fall weather in a month or so. I hope others have an opportunity to grab their Nokta (or Makro) detector and get some hunt-time in.

Good luck Monte. Keep us posted !

Oh my God!!! A post that's not about the impact in the nokta forum!!!!

Glad to hear you and the relic are getting along Monte. I have plans of breaking mine out this weekend after my brother's wedding :)

The original Racer and Racer 2 and Impact and Multi-Kruzer can all easily hold-their-own afield against any of the competition, and of all of those the Impact is still one I regard highly for me and the types of sites I enjoy hunting. But I also find that most of my favorite detector models from different manufacturers over the past two decades operate in the mid-VLF 10 kHz to 15 kHz frequency range. The Racer and Racer 2 are 14 kHz designs and the factory default start-up of both the Impact and Kruzer and Multi-Kruzer is 14 kHz.

All models mentioned perform well and, like anyone out there, I will have my favorites for various reasons. But there are two models in my Regular-Use Detector Team that will be permanent fixtures because they continue to serve me well. They are easy to use, meaning 'Simple' and 'Functional' and provide me with all the 'Performance' I have come to expect, with one operating in the mid-range, the FORS CoRe at 15 kHz, and the other being the FORS Relic which gives me that start-up 'edge' in some tough Relic Hunting sites I enjoy working due to the higher 19 kHz frequency.

It is 1:40 AM right now and I'll be heading out in 3½ hours to grab my must-have Diet Dr. Pepper and a simple breakfast to eat on the short drive for this morning's adventure, and my CoRe and Relic devices are already loaded up and ready to go. This is a very, very well hunted site that Oregon Gregg and I have worked, often, for almost 3 years now and it is a bit stingy on what it wants to surrender as we do battle at that location. But I checked the site out yesterday on a drive home and even though there are several camping rigs around, the main area we search is almost barren and free of all the weeds that challenged us in the spring and up until late May or early June.

I've mostly used 14 kHz and 15 kHz models this year so it's time to give my 19 kHz Relic a workout and see if I might be fortunate enough to chance upon something old and desired. Silver would be welcome, of course.

Well Monte, feel free to post as many relic, racer 2, racer threads as you want. I can't really take part in the impact or kruzer threads, so I haven't really been on the makro/nokta forums. It's all that's posted about is the latest and greatest.
Always enjoy your post and best of luck with your hunts!!

Sadly, many Findmall Forums have been rather quiet this summer regarding most brands with the exception of those Made-in-Malaysia units from the Aussie company, but that is and will be changing.

The Makro Kruzer series hit the market before the EQ offerings and we've seen some flurries of posts on the Makro Forum, but it's otherwise been quiet. Maybe weather has limited a lot of folks from getting out? Who knows, but it's been that way for me. I will say that my e-mail box has kept me busy with discussions about most of the Nokta and Makro Detectors, especially coving things like search coil choices and settings, along with using them afield.

We have to remember that Nokta and then Makro devices have only had a more obvious presence this past four years, but look at how many different models we have seen them introduce, as well as following up with an excellent selection of search coils to select from. Many newcomers here in the USA have had ample 'home manufactured' devices and only two key foreign (to us) detector makers in the mix. Thus they have been a little slow to come around to checking out these products, and that also applies to a lot of more experienced hobbyists. But once in more skilled hands and putting in the field time, I also see how some of these models have really captured their interest.

Take Oregon Gregg who has his main-use CoRe and Racer 2, but also has a small 'inventory' of back-ups of these just "to be prepared" for the future because they work and work well and will continue to serve him as time goes into the future. Or there are D&P-OR who have quite a few years experience and, while they have other brands and models around, they seem to have fallen into great admiration of the Nokta FORS Relic ... and I sure can't blame them. Del & Patsy each had one to hunt with their small 5" DD coil in some really challenging iron filled sites. Then Del bought one of my back-up custom 'Edge Blue' Relics just to keep the 5X9½ open-frame DD coil affixed. That made 3 Relic devices and from a recent 'wanted' post they were looking for Relic #4 so they would each have their own pair-of-Relics.

Yes, we have seen newer models come, like the Racer and Kruzer series models and the top-end Impact, but that sure didn't put my CoRe and Relic to rest. They are both admired favorites in my 'Team' and will always serve me well. Matter of fact, they are out in the rig waiting for me and I'm 8 minutes late so Miss Rikki & I better close this and hit the road!
