Hi Monte,

This is a little off topic, but I thought I would ask you this anyway. As one (if not THE) most respected posters on the subject of MD'ing, what machine do you personally think is the best at:

1) coin shooting
2)Jewelery (gold particularly)
3) Water hunting

Your input will be greatly appreciated. If you don't want to post this publicly, you could e-mail me at cncdanb@gmail.com

Thanks,

Dan

Monte is right, as usual. You'd probably be a lot happier with an Eldorado. I just picked one up and I'm extremely pleased with it. I have a CW bullet buried in my test garden at 9" (been buried for 6 months in medium/moderately mineralized ground) and it picks it up easily with a solid sound. Granted, Tesoro doesn't make the Eldorado anymore, but it doesn't seem to be difficult to find a used one, if you have a little patience. In our moderate to bad ground I found that a ground balance is extremely necessary.

Sorry tabdog, better luck next time. It did go a little higher than I expected, but if you want something bad enough...

Cheers to you too my friend. I'm sure you'll find one. Have you looked on any of classified for other forums? If not, I have a tip for you. Email me at

I've seen a couple of good deals surface on an Eldorado lately that appeared to be in great condition. For those who do have the pleasure of hunting in moderate to higher mineral environments, manual ground balance (adjusting for both modes) can not be overstressed as a "must have" feature.
