lately I have been finding alot of pennies and not to much more. Will a penny make the same sound as a nickel or a quarter. Also this is not really a problem but I find myself digging holes 6" to 8" alot does this mean the place I hunt is worked over pretty hard. One more thing does a ring give a nice smooth signal or a "iffy" signal?

In regards to your questions about what kind of a signal you would hear detecting a ring, it is no different than a coin. I find that "iffy" signals are usually shards of aluminum that read on the VDI meter in the gold ring range. Pull tabs sound just like gold and platinum rings. Silver rings usually register on my MXT in the Penny/dime and quarter range depending on the size of the ring. Every signal sounds the same on the MXT as compared to other detectors that have tone ID. I use the relic mode and find that it gives a more solid response to targets as apposed to the coin and jewelry mode that has more of a buzzy sound passing over a target.

On the M6 with its 7 tones, the audible breaks up more on trashy targets. Much smoother on coins and good targets. It makes hunting trashy sites more enjoyable. HH
