No place is ever hunted out. This afternoon I hunted an old baseball field that I, and many others, have pounded with everything from BFO's to most of the top end detectors from all the mfg's since 1970 and got three silver roosies and an almost worn slick Barber half doller. The area where the dimes and half dollar were found has been hunted so much about the only trash found there is an occasional very deep rusty nail. I can understand the dimes being there as they were deep enough to be easily missed, but the Barber half was only 3 to 4 inches down. Found with an A & S Treasure Baron, same detector as the Kellyco Cobra II, with external ground balance and threshold pots added.

Very nice hunt

Yup! JB could probably use a Radar Shack detector and still make better finds than most,,,,,,,,,,,good find there JB.
I found a silver dime with the cz5 that you gave me tips on.................it went tink, tink and pinpointed small, and read about 6 inches deep. Thanks for PM'ing me the tips on CZ5...........Hombre

The A & S Baron and Kellyco Cobra II are basically base Barons with preset ground balance and also preset threshold levels. Mine has external pots added for ground balance and threshold, which basically makes it the same as a Baron with the Prohunter module except for the LED intensitiy meter. The do not accept the rear mounted modules, but can be modified to take them. Mr Bill has a Cobra II in a lightweight Millennium case for sale now, unless he's already sold it, that has the ground balance and threshold mods and I believe he also added the socket that allows using the Deephunter and other rear mount modules. The A & S and Cobra II go deep in my mild ground, even with the 5.5 inch coil getting dimes at 8 plus inches isn't a problem. I have a full bore Cointrax with version 2.2 chip that's deeper, and a Goldtrax I use for jewlery hunting, but I use the A & S most of the time when coin hunting because it's simple to use, has excellent depth, and the disc setup and tones ID deep coins better than any other non metered detector I've used.

Good to hear your CZ is working for you Hombre. I had been kind of thinking about getting another CZ and our PM exchanges just about has me at the point of getting one:).

I pretty much agree with you Jack. The most successful coin hunter I've known used an old Garrett Groundhog VLF/TR's from the 1970's until he passed away 4 or 5 years ago. He tried some new detectors occasionally, but always went back to the old Garrett and kept on finding silver coins with it. During the same time period I was buying and trying every new model that came out, and found maybe a tenth of the number of silver coins he did. Gotta be a lesson there somewhere:).

Yeah I've got a buddy who still hunts with a 35 year old Compass 77 IB and he will go out with someone and their new Golly Gee Whiz Bang special and thump their butt. :)

Bill

Considering that the standard concentric coil is only covering an area about the size of a quarter at depth it's easy to see how those were passed over and why no area is ever "hunted out." Most coins will fit into an area of one-square inch or so and if you're just hunting a 10' x 10' plot there are 14,400 square inches in that plot. Absolutely no way you can hit hem all.

Bill

I've suspected that about concentrics. Didn't Compass develop the DD (called it something else) many years ago? Anyone know of one the will work on B.H. s ????? Thanks.
