As I write this "Wild Injuns" by the Neville Brothers is playing on the radio......must be a sign.

First.....following up on a post concerning copper coins found in pine duff, below are two coins found with the X50+6" HF DD last week. I had no idea what they were till this evening when I partially cleaned them, but suspected they were wheaties. The pine/evergreen needles can be seen stuck to one coin, and the other shows the corrosion that allows the sand to bind to the coin like concrete. The coins turned out to be 1911 & 1917 wheaties.

After I received the 10.5 MF DD I decided to just take it out and check it out on a maiden voyage using the X70. That trip resulted in a 1902 Indian Head that was next to a piece of iron. Because of the coil pattern it could only be detected from one direction. One thing I did discover(always nice to learn something new) is that by using Prospecting Mode with IM at 5 helped separate this coin from the iron. Usually I just kick it into Prospecting All Metal for pinpointing. But by moving the coil slowly, an iron vs non-iron target could be discerned as the IM engaged & released with the opposite direction coil movement.

This week I decided to just go and do some noodling in the trash with the X50+6" HF DD as I decided to just make it a relaxed hunt, as I had a cold and was a bit under the weather. The little coil didn't disappoint recovering 1915 & 1918 wheaties plus a 1906 Indian Head. After an hour or so I decided to use the X70 with the 10.5 MF DD for about half an hour. I managed a 1958 wheatie and 1903 Indian Head. What are the chances 1902 Indian last week & 1903 Indian this week? Maybe a 1904 next week?

Also in the pic below some "old school" lead sinkers and a real good reason to always wear gloves while detecting!

That's some nasty looking coins you got from that site. But better than what I been getting = Zilch.

Bill, Have you tried the MFDD in the shallows yet or are the bergs still floating around?

I am chomping at the bit now more than I was, I have been notified that my XTerra 70 is in the mail.

Good luck on your new purchase, you'll find the X-Terras with the High Frequency coils are very hot on gold jewelry. Avoid the foil fields when you start off with them, and keep your settings tame to get a feel for the detector. Like many others here you may find a particular coil you like best for your purposes, and you'll notice many of the posters put a certain coil on and then refuse to take it off of the detector.

No I'm land-lubbing at the moment because of high water. Ice is finally out so it is frustrating to see water in the parking lots and know there's 5 ft of water at the towel lines. I was on the shore of one lake last week on the day of ice out, and the Loons were making such a racket claiming territory, that I was having a hard time hearing targets with Nugget Busters on. OK, naughty me, I said bad words to the Loons, but I did look around first to make sure no tree huggers were skulking about.:look: Wouldn't want to receive an infraction from the Loon Police!

Sometimes they aren't as shy as people claim and human activity seems to bother them less and less around here. They have a very curious nature! Just leave em alone when they have their babies.

Time to check out the woods for some 'shrooms. Steak and shrooms... Umm Umm good!

Just curiouis on the DD as I was not able to use the stock coil in prospect mode here over sandy lake bottoms. I'm thinking maybe the DD would quiet it down.

Gotta watch out for those sharps Barnacle. They were, especially syringes used by junkies, one of the reasons I "dont" miss detecting beaches even though it was a ton of fun. Army boots and kevlar gloves perhaps:shrug:
Great finds mate.
