Aside from the size of the coils, are there any other differences between these two detectors?

No, you pick one depending on the coil you want. I don't know why they would changed the name of the detector depending on the coil.

G2 the same as well, at least for the guts.

Someone said the G2 had been "tweaked" to be a little better at hitting silver.

Has anyone else heard that?

Smudge-----I think the existing (version 1) G2 hits silver fine just as it is.-----There may be a version 4 G2 out now (I'm not sure)---but---even if there is I don't think it would hit silver any better than the first (version 1) G2, which to me hits silver just fine the way it is.----Why do I say this?----Well, because we have owned/used three version 1 G2's and also have (now) owned/used three version 4 GB Pro's (the latest GB Pro out).----Between those two detectors & testing them, I think the version 4 GB Pro does AUDIO WISE "hit/report" targets just a wee bit more "distinct" than the G2---not much mind you--but just a little.----In my tests (and hunting), neither detector was able to see (hit) a target that the other one couldn't---they were almost equal in that regard.---That was tests of the version 1 G2 versus the version 4 GB Pro---same everything.---Wasn't enough difference to hardly sneeze at!----As far as EMI handling---see my post on that, they were both excellent.--------I've went the long way around the mulberrry bush to answer your question-----no, I don't think the G2 has been "tweaked" to hit silver better IMO).---------Del

I have the version 4 G2 I got from Bart here in OCT last year. After I got it I read on here I believe it was that they did do something at the factory to tweak it to hit silver slightly better so who knows. Maybe Dave from Teknetics will read this and chime in and spill the beans on this.

The only difference between the two (regarding the V1 of the G2 and V4 of the G2) is in the screen. In addition too, the Hitting Silver hard, depends on coil size, depth, ground, and direction of the target. This is true with any Detector. I have target checked both the G2, V1, and the Gold bug pro V4. and from what I see it's even. Headphones will help you pick up some deep targets too. But Del you are on the right track !!!

Well, I hope I'm on the right track Ken---I've been trying to "get my act together" since I bought my first detector in 1975!------When I said "same everything"---that's what I meant (the things you mentioned).----Sounds like you noted (almost) the same results in those two detectors (G2 version 1 and GB Pro version 4) as I did.------As I mentioned, (IMO), the GB Pro (V4) has a leeetle bit (more distinct) "hit" on targets than the G2 (V1)----not that both detectors won't see the same target.---------BTW, what is the difference in the screen of the version 1 and version 4 G2's that you mentioined?----Just curious as I haven't yet seen a V4 G2.----------Del

I only talking about this detector, just when I think, I know what it was saying. Somebody keeps coming up with a new metal compound. LOL. I love it when that happens :chase:
