I'm still in shock. I stopped by the local park to detect some mounds of dirt excavated for new piping. I ran into a fellow detectorist ive met before. After both of us had no luck, he invited me along to go to the ST Vincents Seminary that was built in the 1850's. The place had been inuse until 1979 and was bought recently by the university to use as part of the new arts building. In the process, plenty of bulldozing was done on the land to make way for a theater and another building next to the existing seminary building. After about an hour of finding roofing tacks and junk constuction metal, i got a nice belltone on my gtax 1250. I dug about 2 inches down in the bulldozed dirt and pulled out a small disk. By then my heart was skipping a beat. And when i rubbed the dirt away, i let out a huge WOW!!!!!! when i saw this was an 1849-O half dime in g-vg condition. My friend Tim who was with me had found seated liberties and barbers there, but never anything that old.......and this was my first coin i'd found there.
