GMT info?

G-day from oz.
No stranger to prospecting or forums, generally run a GPX-4500 but have just taken ownership of a Whites GMT for trashy spots and small gold in and around creek beds and areas i frequent here in Australia.

Iv got a question in regaurds to the GMT, which i came across following links from Steve Herschbach.
Q. Does the HyperSAT literiture below include the SAT on the GMT.?

Thx for any info.
Narrawa.

THE VSAT SYSTEM

The VSAT system on the MXT is similar in a general way to the one on the GMT. The VSAT function is done entirely in software. Up to about 2/3 rotation, the SAT is of the conventional (first derivative or auto tune) kind, giving a "zip" sound on a nugget and a "boing" sound on a negative hot rock (cold rock).

As you approach maximum rotation, the MXT goes into "HyperSAT". HyperSAT is a completely different type of SAT system with different sounds and target responses. The background threshold sound is a little rattier, but nuggets are crisper, the ground is quieter, and negative hot rocks vanish when you slow down your sweep. For all but the most experienced users whose ears are calibrated to hear every little nuance of a regular SAT signal, HyperSAT gives more effective depth in bad ground than normal SAT.

No, there is no HyperSAT on the GMT. The GMT came out two years before the MXT and HyperSAT was new on the MXT.

From GMT Owner Manual at White's website

"VSAT Adjustment
The Initial Setting Triangle is set between 3x and 4x on the control knob, appropriate for 80% of hunting locations. When you encounter fast changes in ground mineralization or deeper, larger "hot rocks", you may either get "false signals." (positive ground) or lapses in the THRESHOLD "hum" (negative ground). Increasing the V-SAT control setting to speed up the auto adjustment of the THRESHOLD "hum" will reduce this interference. At the same time, you should slow down your "sweep" speed to help SAT do its job to maintain a smooth threshold.
Remember, overall depth will be diminished with a faster V-SAT speed, but if the ground is too noisy to separate a good target from a false signal, it is better to operate with a little more V-SAT speed than to lose a target altogether. This is the same logic that was used in describing the GAIN control. Lower- ing the gain will reduce overall depth, but by doing so you can also improve your performance and find more nuggets in the long run. For best results, set your V-SAT speed JUST high enough to cancel out false signals from ground mineralization and set the GAIN control JUST high enough to maintain maximum depth without having false or erratic behavior. GAIN & SAT are like SALT & PEPPER. With the right balance the soup tastes just right."

Yes and no. It will find coins and relics just fine. The problem is a small piece of aluminum will sound just like a coin. It is extremely sensitive to very small targets.
