GMT and coins

Still trying to convince myself that a GMT would be my best buy-

Has anyone here ever used a GMT for detecting other metals apart from gold, and what success did you have?

Hi Hy2x..........The GMT was engineered to see the tinyest gold nuggets in the most dense mineralized ground in which they are found. The GMT will find coins but will drive you crazy chasing those tiny, tiny bits of gum wrapper foil shredded bits that are extremely hard to find. However, if you carefully pick your hunting spots, you can do alright, such a tot lots away from any iron bars and pipes. ..........Good luck in your coin hunting;;;;;;How.

i get driven crazy by those little bits of foil from easter candy. My MXT picks them up. I never sat on a swing or monkey bars and ate candy. If i did,i would use the trash cans. I went to the park/school yard to play and get dirty. anyhowww I dig everything and toss the trash in the trash can, still. My momma brought me up right LOL...

Month & a half ago I bought the GMT, went to a tot lot with my bro in law, he was new with my GTI & me with the GMT.
We spent same time in DTing, the tall, he found a couple penny & some trash!
I found 4-5 pennies, couple dimes, Quarter, 3-4 nickles, an nice new child's locket(gave to my niece) & also found a small 18K earring.
I gave my Bro the earring as a reminder of our hour or so detecting.
I bought my GMT for Gold nugget hunting, but sure rings loud on the Gold earrings!
Of course with the GMT being all metal, you must dig all, including small foil & such. As stated by the others here.

Best to you Hyp2r

Hi GH

Seeing as you have just brought your GMT, why did you choose this model?
and are you quite happy with your purchase? and did it come with the standard coil or
any extras?

I'm a complete novice but very keen to get out hunting some nuggets but just have to be
sure I am buying a suitable detector. There are so many people with different opinions - a dealer
told me to steer well clear of a GMT and that there are far superior types out there.

All the feedback from GMT owners in forums seem to favour it and most seem happy.

Came with standard DD, no extras.
I'm happy with my choice to get the GMT after a lot of reading, for a VLF it handles most hot rocks, with auto ground balance.
Yes, it could be true there are other better choices, like pulse induction detectors, but the price is way out of my tune, if you can afford it! If you are serious about Gold, then get a pulse induction, I heard they have a bit of learning curve.
Others on the forum know more about this area of expertise, lots of info in the prospecting forums.

Best regards

Thanks GH. I have ordered a GMT and should arrive in the next day or so. I've spent hours looking at all the forums and
most seem to think the GMT is a good choice for a VLF detector. I will be using it mainly for small gold and some think the GB2 would have been a good choice also.

I'm very happy with my decision even though I have never used a GMT!

Was the learning curve big or was it quite easy to pick up?

One thing nice about the GMT is that it has the screen to tell you (in percentages) if it is iron or not.The gb2 only has the sound to rely on.I also think the gb2 is a manual ground balance machine where the GMT auto tracks.Maybe when you get proficient with the GMT,get the gb2 for your collection
