GM 3 vs X Terra 70?

Hi Bobby. I liked the GM3 and the GM4 as well.
Over here in Oz I would back the 70 against both of them no probs.
I have found a lot of gold with the 70 on ground I had absolutely smashed with the GM3 and the 4. Even the GMT. One place was where the 70 got the altitude jitters too and it still found gold the others didnt detect. I reckon the 70 can be run harder in hot ground once you get to know it than the other two.
In quiet ground who knows? I remeber areas where the 3 the 4 and the GMT had to be wound back to just 1/4 of their punch whereas the 70 only needed to be taken back a bit less than 1/3, say 22 on the sensitivity to run smooth.
I dont doubt though that there are areas in other parts of the world where a GM3 would still be a great machine so really I cant knock it.
For me over here though the 70 whoops it.

Hi BT I have the X70-GM3 and the GPX 4000 and the gpx blows both of them out of the water which by the way is my main gold beeper-the X70 as stated before is a very capable gold detector but since my main interest is beepin for gold I'll stay with the gold only beepers as they are especially made for that-you are correct about the GM's having to turn down the gain to run smoothly and that is the case with most Higher Khz beepers-but with the GM3 I can turn up the Sat speed and smooth the ground out even more-now the X70 runs at a lower Khz therefor allowing machine to run at higher gain settings in hot ground-I bring my X70 whenever I go out for the real trashy areas-the Vlf's will see gold that the PI's can't see and I'll use them over my PI for mine dumps- 90 percent of my gold beepin is done with the GPX-for someone wanting a all around beeper the X70 is hard to beat-just my 2 centavos worth-Mike C...AZ

X-Terra 70 = $1100 Aus / GPX4000 = $5900 Aus. X-Terra 70 = 1.3kg in weight or / GPX4000 = 3.270kg = arm fubar.
cheers!

Here in the States at the price point, and as an "All Arounder", the X70 & MXT are probably considered the closest competition. You're not the first to post gold finds with the X70, but certainly have presented some of the more detailed and extraordinary finds I have ever seen. And by extraordinary I mean small & very difficult to find objects. I still amazed at 1/40th gram, which is in the 0.001 ounce category.

So is the MXT not used in Oz because it can't handle the hot ground? As I notice you are comparing the X70 to dedicated gold machines and not other "All Arounders".

From your posts & others, I feel pretty confident that if I took a two week holiday to Arizona, I would stand a fighting chance(discounting my lack of prospecting experience) with the X70. As opposed to going out and buying one of the big PI rigs and trying to learn it in that short of time.

Your skill level is an inspiration to the non-prospectors!

Hi BT,

Good of you to get back thanks.

Sometime this winter in OZ I,m going to tell you about a field in Australia that may well turn out to be the last great hunting ground.
Not thrashed, little to no junk, almost every signal will be gold, good sized nuggets.

Stuff all know about it, also its not possable to get on it yet.

Regards Bobby.

G,day Bill.
Your right, the MXT is a good machine and I cant knock it.
As an all rounder, yeah I would probably go for it over the GMs in many ways, especially in junk areas, when I think about it.
I noticed on the MXT that when you turned up the SAT to near full on, the signal still stayed defined whereas on the GMT it killed it.
Id still go for the 70 anyday but yeah, the MXT is no slouch either.
I have heard of some really good finds with blokes using them in Alaska.
Only thing which bugs me about overseas machines in general is they all have their own countries icons on the screens etc for their finds.
You know "dimes etc" Whereas the Minelab X Terra's are universal in their readouts and you dont have that niggle as you look at the screen of seeing some foreign currency glaring back at you.
Have a good one.
