Wayne, I see your post is about 5 hours old.
There were some problems at first but Garrett has addressed them and worked them out.
In every new release there are problems.
ALL other detectors have went thru the same process of releasing and then finding and fixing problems.
You will see it on every detector forum here.
Even the Famed ACE 250 has its problems that have been worked out.
That still dont mean you cant get a bad one from the factory.
There is always a percentage that ship defective ... no one is perfect.
The more complex and higher performance the detectors become the more things can go wrong.
Then there is the factor that a high performance detector that requires skilled adjustments to get the most from it are just too far advanced for some users to adjust to.
If you are a turn on and go type of hunter dont but a White's V3i cause you wont like it.
If you cant understand ground balance and how it effects the machine's operation dont get a detector with that feature.
If you like the Ace 250 and are doing well, then by all means stick with it.
You sound as if you have learned it and to expect that you will be as proficient with any new detector is an unreasonable expectation.
Every detector has it own quirks and strong points and that takes time in the field to learn.
The ACE 300 is an upgrade to the ACE 250 and it has features the 250 dont offer.
If those are features you dont need then you would be foolish to upgrade to get them.
The AT PRO looks like an ACE series detector but it is in a class by itself and in no way is an upgraded ACE 250.
