Giving credit where credit is due: Kellyco.

Nothing seems to breed contempt like success. On these metal detecting forums, Kellyco gets lots of heat for various reasons, and somehow I get the feeling it is not "cool" to do business with them.

Well, I've been wanting to try an Etrac. I'd been reading reports on another forum of a particular dealer who was giving guys super cheap deals on Etracs, just huge discounts. So I gave that dealer a call. I asked him for his best deal on an Etrac, and was told "Minelab won't let me sell them for less than the list price." Okay. Either this is a new policy, or the guy was feeding me a line, I dunno.

But that answer seemed weird after reading all the tales of telephone discounts being negotiated, so I gave Kellyco a call. Long story short, after about three minutes of negotiating with one of their sales people last Tuesday, I got a good deal on an Etrac, and it arrived Friday. The negotiation was painless, shipping was fast, no complaints. And I got the feeling that the price I paid wasn't based on who I was; you don't have to be one of the Good Ol Boys to call them and get a deal. There may be even cheaper prices out there, I don't know, but the price I paid was a good bit below Minelab list, certainly less than what the other guy told me.

So I will give credit where credit is due, even if it means I will never be one of the Cool Kids. Kellyco gave me what I feel was a good solid deal on an Etrac when I called them, and the purchase was smooth as silk. Just calling it like I see it.

Whether it's cool or not, obviously plenty of people do business with Kellyco. There are a lot of good dealers out there. Kellyco is one of them. I have no issue with Kellyco. I just prefer to give my business to the mom and pops.

To sell as many detectors as they do..and have only a very few issues is amazing if you think about it. Sure they have a few complaints..And some vocalize those complaints on forums.
Others join in too.Just to chime in( No Merit). Over all Kellyco, and all their employees are a top notch act..,, Always growing, adding products..and now servicing several brands..

I was treated like an Idiot when I called and talked to one of their Former Salesmen. I asked about a certain coil for a machine that had been discontinued a few months previously. By his reaction one would have thought that I was badmouthing his Mother.

After that experience I have purchased a couple of items from Kellyco because they had the items I needed but the vast majority of my business has gone to other dealers. I will say that one could not have expected any quicker shipment of an item that what Kellyco did on those purchases.

All it takes is one Bad experience to sour ones attitude towards a Business. I worked in Retail for 13 years and I can recognize bad customer handling as well as recognize Good Customer Service. Some times it is all in the attitude or tone of voice of the Salesman.

I still think that the Questions that I asked that Salesman were valid questions and still do not understand his crappy reaction. That One Salesman cost Kellyco a couple of thousands of dollars of my business.

Kellyco is awesome to do business with I have bought a lot off them in the years and they have always treated me right!

The vast majority of people who do business with Kellyco say nothing but good things about them.

I guess it's the ridiculously inflated "retail" prices on the made for Kellyco Chinese detectors and accessory freebies that rubs me the wrong way.

I'm sure over the years that pricing technique has successfully snagged a lot of business from the never ending supply of novices coming into the hobby who think they are getting amazing savings on a detector or hundreds of dollars of free accessories.

Unlike the name brand detectors, that stuff is made in China for Kellyco. So it's their prerogative to put any retail price they want on it.

I guess I've bought more from Chuck Marcum at Indian Nations Detectors than anywhere else, but I've never had anything but positive experiences with any of the sponsors I've dealt with on this forum.

Personally, I like when I can talk directly to the owner and know if there ever is a question or problem I can deal directly with him.

Whether you're a novice, or not, and making your first purchase of a detector, television, vehicle, appliance, etc, an educated/informed consumer is usually a happy consumer.

Personally, I have never been anything but happy with my purchases from Kellyco.

If anyone ever has customer service issue with Kellyco or a question for Kellyco, feel free to pm me. I am close friends with Kellyco management and many of the staff and will be happy to help..
