Git'n gold with the MXT

Hey all!!! Thought I would finally post, I'm one of those guys that's been reading for a long time but haven't posted anything... I got an MXT last year for because it's a versatile machine, but I can honestly say that I have officially gotten the gold fever and it has become my favorite type of md'ing. Luckily I know that this is a great gold machine... Anyways, I bought the 4x6 DD because it is great for finding the small stuff. Now I am looking for the best coil for finding the deeper but larger nuggets. For you nugget shooters out there, I am curious if you were to get one coil to get the best depth on gold in mineralized ground what would you choose. Thanks for all your help!!!

I would get the 6 X 10 DD if you don't have it. Its the best all around gold getting coil out there it handles the mineralized ground and picks up grain size nuggets...................As far as big deep nuggets then just about any coil that will handle the soil conditions and get depth will find gold, BUT ..I have found that you cant really find deep nuggets unless you go with a machine designed to go for deeper stuff, the GMT will go deeper then the MXT because of the frequency is higher, And you have the $3000.00 Minelabs that will find gold up to about 18", You do not need all that because very few nuggets are found at those depths unless you spend all your time desert hunting. Most of your gold is washed into wash areas and the bed rock is usually shallow the soil gets washed away leaving the gold laying on the bed rock with a small amount of soil covering them. I never could understand the deep nugget concept, Nuggets are heavier then any rocks or soil that host them, that does not mean they sink to the bottom. they will lay where mother nature places them by heavy run off. Now heavy run off will take away most of the soil and rocks around the nugget it takes more to move the heavy gold then it does the soil. So just get your self a coil that gives you good ground coverage and handles the soil conditions the 6 X 10 DD is the best for that in my books, matter of fact its the only coil I use for gold unless I am working areas around big rocks were the smaller coil gets in and around the rocks better then I will go with the 4 X 6 DD. MXT + 6 X 10 DD = GMT .... formula to remember...... Sure hate to hear you have been bitten by the gold bug......I got bit about twenty years ago and still itch.........

Congrats on your gold finds. Keep a scratchin' those iches.

HH to all, Nancy

For big nuggets deep I would go with the super 12" if you don't have a lot of trash, or bad ground. I agree with Hillbilly Bob the 6 x 10 is probably the best all around coil for gold. Whites offers the Deepscan 1400 DD. I have not tried this coil but I hear its a bit heavy. Dave

No problem, good luck on your prospecting adventures.

They reckon the 14" DD is the deepest for larger bits but I have not done much with one to honestly comment.
6X10 the best all round searcher. 5.3 eclipse in quiet ground and 6 shooter for the hot.
