Ghost Town Copper FLOOD & Last 3 Hunts (pic heavy)

New member
The first hunt was back at the site that produced the Barber dime, military buttons, etc. It's still producing, but not as much - I'll hit it with the new AT Gold when it arrives next week (right, Bart?). It did cough up the pocket watch parts, Wheaties, some bottles, spoons, and the gold and copper cuff links...

Second, I hit the slopes around the old schoolhouse and another homesite in the same area. The school area is nearly impossible to hunt, it's so trashy- people have been dumping trash all around it, partiers galore, signs of homeless habitation - so, I'll try out the 5x8 coil there, too. This is the site I detected on the second hunt:

I barely managed to resist the urge to go check out the neighboring bones of a cabin I spied through the fence:

Next time. This site gave up some tools, the iron pot lid, mangled penny, horseshoes, spikes and some misc.

The third hunt was around this miner's shack:

How do I know it was a miner's shack? Here's how:

On to the finds:
Yesterday, Thursday, I was at the third site and wasn't coming up with much. I circled around the area and was working up a dry wash when I started hitting Copper. A LOT of Copper:

I was happy enough to spend a couple of hours picking Copper out of the sand, as it was in the shade and it was about 90 deg. and I had been about ready to head for home and kick back. Pulled about 4# of Copper and a few bottles out of the wash, as well as the barbell weight and a 25# iron pipe fitting (I'm about at my goal of 100# of iron recycling for the month).

Here are the coins & pins. If anyone knows if the pin on the right was military, I'd appreciate the info. The other pin is a little copper oval, just has a patent date of 1910 on the back.:

Just a few wheats, but I'll take 'em! I just like the copper button in the middle.

Here are the buttons, cuff links, and rivets & snaps:

Both cuff links are missing the back, but cool finds. The pic didn't show the gold one very well (left), but it is definitely gold, probably plated.

and the household stuff - a little of everything from pots & pans to Man Zan lead tube (forerunner of Preparation H). I'm definitely making my can opener, spike and horseshoe quotas!

I found a fair amount of brass, too - watch & clock parts, heavy old faucet (maybe from the school) & gas fitting, along with the usual suspects:

We'll take a short break to enjoy the Cholla in bloom. Your program will resume shortly:

Welcome back! Here are the iron tools and whatzits:

and a few mysteriously unbroken bottles:

What's a ghost town trip without some lead and solder spills?

A few rocks & minerals, I like the heavy Copper ones. The top right one has two very sparkly veins of greenish mica, didn't show in the pic, though.

Well, that's it for tonight. Here's hoping for some eye-popping finds next week!!

Good story, lots of pictures and very nice. A good collection of objects, each with its history. A good landscape different from my land. Thank you very much for showing. Congratulations on your hunt. I like your stories William-NM
un saludo

Thanks, guys! I like to keep a photo record of the finds and keep them in folders by week, so why not post 'em? At least it should make you feel good about your nice coin finds, heh.

Thank for posting part of country would not see otherwise.
Interesting finds.
