GH Combined vs Stock Coin

fsdigital12

New member
Newbie starting out with a CTX tomorrow.

Should I go with GH's combined program from the start or use the Stock coin program?

I did an air test on combined and noticed a memorial and a quarter sound the same....

New on the CTX, or new to the hobby? If you're just new to the CTX GH's Comibine mode is awesome, but if you're gonna hunt in trashy areas, you can modify it to discriminate out some of the junk Fe-Co combos and it'll work great.

GH's settings as posted in the CTX Classroom, have the bin farthest to the right to include 40-50 CO. Most copper pennies 1909-1982 will fall in that range 40-42. (1982 there were both copper and zinc pennies) The 82 up zinc will fall into the next bin to the left along with Indian pennies 30-39. The penny you scanned must have been copper and not zinc, to fall in that range. I would try GH combined program. If you have both in your machine, you can always try them both out.......HH

The quarter and memorial sound the same due to the bin sizes and tone assignment you have implemented in your Combined Audio Profile. TID numbers within a given bin will sound the same. That is one of the "hazards" of only using Combined which categorizes all targets within one of 4 CO bins. And, that is why some folks prefer using multiple tone mode as found in the Stock coin program. Even with multiple tone, it is difficult to differentiate the pitch of one target that has a TID "adjacent to" another.
Which you should use???? As C&RHunter said, start the detector with one of them, add the other as the second mode and toggle back and forth using "previous mode" programmed into the user programmable pad. That way you can compare them "head to head" to see which one you and your ears prefer. JMHO HH Randy
