GGA headphone conversion for the ctx 3030

Bergie

New member
I read the topic somewhere here and can't find it now, but I am trying to learn how to change the plug for the GGA's to work on the ctx 3030. Can someone/anyone help me with changing to plug, or give me a link to the posts.
Thank you,
Bergie

I saw that one too, I will be getting my GGA's tomorrow so I am in the same predicament. If I find it I will forward it to you. So far I recall the GGA has two wires, the CTX requires 3, I know there is a jumper wire they are running but not sure to which terminals. If you find it please share it!!!

Bergie,

I found it...I copied and pasted a listing from AJ, these are his words....Good Luck!!! let me know if it works.

f you are looking at the pins on the back of the connector plugged in to the machine, you would connect the red wire to the first pin to the left of top centre. you then need to jump the 2nd and 3rd pins to the left of the first one together and connect the black wire to either of those two pins you just jumped together. this is for GGA.

Thanks to everyone for the help...I appreciate it. I just have to make the time to cut splice and solder everything, I received the plugs today...

I finally found this post from an earlier topic hope it helps....

I want to let you know the diagram Minelab has showing the photo of the connector has the pin connections labeled incorrect. I have edited the photo below to show the correct connection points. I have the correct connector(actually a plastic version and a full stainless version)and it is an m12 8-pin male connector. Next week when I get some time I will try to take the time and post some pics showing the connections while I am building a set of the Gray Ghost Underwater Headphones if anyone would be interested... bare with me though as I also run a small family business and twin 8 yr. old boys so I will have to do it when I can find the time....If some of you are already researching it for yourself, I hope this helps you....

I forgot to add when searching for the m12 8-pin connector make sure it is ip67 or ip68 rated.

A friend of mines bought a pair of GGA for his infinium and was not pleased with them so I made a trade with him and gave him a used pair of underwater Garrett headphones... I had modified some Garrett headphones for the CTX and have been using them on dives to about 12". They are definitely louder than the GGU headphones that I was really disappointed with... So, I took the GGA and just as I suspected, there was no chip/coil built into the headphones so there was barely any audio at all even with the CTX volume at 30 and the volume control all the way up at 10 on the GGA I could barely hear a whisper.... I disconnected the volume control and inserted the chip/coil and it is definatly louder than the GGU and I would say that it is maybe a tad bit louder than my modified Garrett headphones. I still need to test them out in the water but I notice that there is no muffling like the with the GGU, the GGA is much more loud, clear and crisp sounding than the GGU for sure... I just can't see hunters buying a pair of GGU and GGA just to install the chip/coil in the GGA or the easier solution would be to remove the GGA speakers and install them on the GGU... I was lucky to have all of these headphones available to experiment with...

I was able to test the GGA on a free dive yesterday. This is what I noticed: The GGA NOT SUBMERGED is approximately 10% louder than the GGU, so submerged is not much of a difference between the two... It is loud enough for free diving but if you are scuba then you will not be able to hear during breathes... Yesterdays finds during the testing of the headphones. both are 14k and were about 8 feet deep.
