Getting the best depth from the 15" WOT

My goal was to find , the best settings for the SOV + 15" WOT combination I started in fixed all metal, sens at 0 I have the 5,6,7,8,9,10, dimes and a 11" deep quarter after going low and high on the sensitivity i found the best spot was between the C in cancel and the 3:00 oclock position this gave the best depth in fixed all metal with the best dicernable signal and in disq both threshold set at a good humm but not loud but not soft I found if i cranked the sens the ground efect would blurr the wavy tone in all metal to the point it was hard to hear and in disq it would get scratchy or not come thru but at this setting i mentioned i got the 9" dime in disq with a good signal both ways and the 10" dime the 11" quarter came thru one way with a bit faster sweep just thought i would mention this in case someone gets a WOT and by the way in all metal i can get the 11" deep quarter and 10" dime with a 1.5" 2x4 over the ground and still get it so thats good but it would be nice to have a gpx 5000 for a bit better depth

Thanks gunnar for the report and finding. the gpx 5000 however, is a "little" steep for my pocket lol It might be a superior metal detector..... but for that kind of money, I would be putting it on as extra principle towards my mortgage. But if I hit the lottery for a cool million......:detecting:

I've found that too...often the deepest/best signal is with the sens set at about the "C" in noise cancel. That was in particular true of the 15x12. Even though the GT was stable with a much higher sens setting it would degrade or null the signa. This is in medium to high mineral ground. The 12x10 often wants max stable sens. Also, the lower your sens (like say lower than noon) the faster the sweep speed for best response. If you are maxing out sens then a real slow sweep speed is in order.

Look at the rusty items Gunnars pulling out now, can you imagine how worse it would be with one of those gpx machines? Pretty sure those detectors will hit flakes of gold, very small targets, it would probably be a nightmare to hunt with one in his location.
Back in the day money was held onto a bit tighter than we do today, and more valuable, there just might not be much lost there on that farm. Would be a good idea to find out if there was some kind of stand where vegetables where sold, where money might have been exchanged, kinda narrow down the hunting ground.
