Getting ready for Florida beach hunting with my home built scoops

WisconsinMD

New member
I decided from what I been reading and the video's I been watching I would try my hand at building me and my other 2 friends some scoops for the beach.

There 6" aluminum scoops with half inch holes with plastic dip handles. Took roughly 3 days for all 3. Looking forward to testing them out out on the wet sands. The only testing I did up here in Wisconsin was in the snow hehe...and they did well in snow lol

And if they fall apart well all I can say is they were an adventure to make lol

Should be arriving March 11th plan on hitting St. Petersburg and Treasure Island for some fun then I was planning to go to the east coast starting in St. Augustine and work our way south but everyone tells me the gulf side would be better so not sure now hehe Either way I figure were gonna have a blast...its Florida and we live in Wisconsin hehe

those look good!!!!

Very impressive looking! Good luck!

All you need now is some sand and some targets to dig.

Good luck on your trip

The basket is made of 6" irrigation pipe, I purchased a 5' used piece from a irrigation company. I ended up getting the 5' piece for

$5. The handle is made of 1 1/4" which I bought 12' of it at $3 / a foot. The handles are roughly 40" long and I set them at 45 degrees, in

which I'm thinking now I should of put the angle more like 60 degrees but it is what it is I can always bend the pipe if 45 degrees is to

much of a pain to scoop with. All I can say is, it was an adventure to build lol

WOW Jeff,,,nice ones,,,,mine are a bit on the ugly side but I made em and they work great also,,,,even 16 and 18 year old sons cant break them,,,have 3 x-cals also

normdiver those look good and think yours are a lot thicker than mine. I'm not sure on the thickness of the ones I made but all I can say

welding the back plates was an adventure. I'm not a welder what so ever but I know my steel welds may not look pretty they hold. Now

for aluminum welding hehe well we will find out how well I did. I had to build up the rim some and also on top of the back plate just to

stop blowing holes in it lol like I said it was an adventure. I do think though there going to get beaten up bad being so thin but we will

see. Just might put stainless steel tips on them when i get back pending on how they hold up on the beaches in Florida...I'll be keeping

you all posted in my adventures of my trip :detecting:

dasm those look good ,how much are you asking for them ?

Well ladies and gentlemen I finally got to actually try put my scoops the last 2 days and there holding nicely. Even though I only found 2 pennies yesterday and 9 pennies and my first quarter today I got to say this hobby is the best! I'm so loving Florida right now. My 2 friends though not sold on the idea so no big deal I'm heading back to the beach in the a.m. and going some more.

Now the Fisher F5 is my first machine and its doing an amazing job and the sand is just so fun and not bad scenery at all ;)
So yes I have to say though just a little bit of time I got the hang of the F5 for the most part. I just dig everything running in AM mode so I don't miss anything but getting the hang of it. Oh and one more thing about the F5 on the beach is I'm digging up the tiniest little pieces of metal at 7 - 9" so I'm guessing the F5 is a really great choice for me. I'll update you all tomorrow on how I do.
