Getting permissions

CT Todd

Well-known member
About 3 weeks ago I was out driving around an area that I was interested in hunting. I stopped by a colonial home with a field next to it. I talked to the owner about detecting and he wasn't thrilled about me digging in his yard as he was "into" his lawn. We got along well and I left him my card with the thought that if he thought of any local history he would give me a call. Today I got a very nice call from him. He said that he had mowed the field next to the house and if I'd like to detect it that it was all mine.

Here's the value of a nice card with your name and contact info on it and not being an ass when your told NO for detecting a property.

There are tons of places to get some basic cards made on line. Make time get it done. Pass them out.

Very good Todd!

Knocking on someone's door and asking for permission has been the part that I haven't been able to do yet. Just can's seem to get up the nerve to do it. This has been the worse detecting season so far for me as the good places have been hunted to death and I know that there are places were old home steads have been but still I cannot go that next step.
Nice going...

Thanks for sharing the tip Mate, cold calling has always came easy for me. I should have been in sales LOL not

Go to my site and read the Permission tab. It will help you get started. It's key to good spots.

Could you tell me what is the name of your site?
Thank you very much

great idea CT

just make them on your computer (about the size of a business card) and print them out. Include your name, address or just the town where you live, phone number, hobby description, and put a border around it. I can get about a dozen of these on a sheet of paper (or use a heavy card stock paper) and cut them with scissors. I keep them in my car in a plastic bag.
