Getting On A Roll

I went back to the 60 year old park and hunted the exact area that I found most of the silver from over the last 5 years. I was at this park last week and had to leave because of activity so I went back early this am. I was using the big coil and I found three silver dimes and two wheat pennies. All of these coins were 8 plus inches and in fairly heavy trash.I have had the 75 since June 9th and these three make 16 silver coins. What is impressive is they have all come from spots I have been hunting for years. I also ended up with 30 clad coins and the 75 pinpointed so well that I popped most out with my screwdriver. Most were 4 inches or so deep. I use the 3h mode for audio and I found that the nickles will almost always high tone and come in at 28 to 31. If I get a high tone that reads 33 to 35 it is a tab. 10 of the clad were nickles. I also dug a silver ring and very little trash. Light weight, battery efficent, and powerful, what a great combination! R.L.

Also, what about the X-terra 70 compared to the F-75? Do you still even use the X-70 after how you're doing with the F-75? Thanks and HH!

Chris, I traded two detectors to get the F75. The Xterra 70 is one of those traded detectors. I was very satisfied with the Minelab except for the small coil. I just could not seem to eliminate tabs and beaver tails. The Cz 70 will always be one of my favorites because of all the deep coins I found with it. The spots I have had success with the F75 are places that I had used the Cz 70 at many times. I'm sure I could have missed some coins, but the recovery speed of the F75 is unmatched from any detector I have ever used, including the CZ70. Even with the big DD coil on the F75, I can separate coins from close junk. It seems that the only way to find older coins in the public spots I hunt is to have a fast detector. The Xterra was very good at this, but in my opinion the F75 is much faster. In wide open fields the CZ 70 and F75 are real close in depth. The Cz 70 is a much easier detector to get comfortable with, but if you can stand some crackling and popping, the F75 is the real deal. Now, add in the ergonomics and battery life, I doubt that I will ever go back to a CZ as my main detector. One issue that does concern me is the build quality. The Cz's were bulletproof and built like a tank. My F75 is not as well built and the jury will be out on their longevity. My F75 has already started loosening up. The battery compartment-stand is loose and all the screws and allen screw are tight. I will send it back this winter as long as it doesn't get any worse. The small coil seems to be more accurate than the Xterra 70's in my ground, but it is still not my favorite small coil setup. The Tesoro Vaquero with a 5.75 is the best I have ever used period! The detectors you asked me about are all in my top five. I still like Explorers, but the weight and speed are not in the same class of the F-75 or even the Exterra 70. I will say that I dug less junk with an Explorer than any detector I have ever used and that includes the very deep coins. I can tolerate the slow sweep speed of the Explorer, but it is just too heavy for my arthritic wrists. If the F75 holds up to my every day hunting, I will stick with it until something better comes out. Keep in touch and thanks for the interest. R.L.

Sounds like your making your dent in that park even deeper. LOL. Do you notch anything out in the heavy trash areas? I found if I notch out high nickels, tabs and low zinc the machine is a little easier to manage. Just wondering. TMAN...

I agree, for me, the CZ-70 is such a comfortable, deep, and easy to use machine. The depth meter in inches is right on, deep pinpoint, etc...but I have found coins after it with both X-Terra 50's and 70's along with the Explorer II's. Surely to each his own in this hobby...HH
