Getting numerous solid readings for 1cent at zero depth.

I am getting numerous solid readings for 1cent (penny) at zero depth. Is this common and normally just a big item not worthy of digging? Sometimes it show 1 Cent and 1 dime at zero depth. Should these just be ignored or dug? Thanks for any help.

Depending on if you want the dime or the cent. Yes, it's easy picking if it states there's a coin on the ground or right underneath the grass. I would go for it. Every cent adds up when you're coin shooting and learning your machine! Practice practice practice is what I always say. The more you use the machine, the more you will know it. HH, Nancy

Always dig a target until you feel comfortable that a signal is not worth digging, that is how you learn what targets gives a certain signal. Any reading of zero depth is almost always a larger object than a coin and usually not worth digging, BUT sometimes it IS worth digging. Even overloads sometimes produces a good treasure.

When in doubt, DIG.

Maybe I did not explain myself well enough. I have dug these and there is never any coin there. I can dig down 6" and each time I dig it continues to say the same thing. This happens quite often. Thanks for your response.

I understand what you are saying. I just hate to distrub good grass in a park area and normally do not dig the big objects. I know I could be passing up a good treasure. I was just curious if others were getting the same issue and what they normally did with the reading. Thanks.

I understand now. Maybe your gain is set too high. If it's a pop can down deep, it will show. That's where the practicing makes it all worth while. Give it time and you will learn. HH, Nancy

If you have dug down 6 inches and you still get a signal at zero depth, it is almost always a deep can in my experience.

If I may intercede when my batteries are ready to crap out on me that's the same symptoms I have also. Pennies one inch deep and nothing. I changed the batteries and it was back to normal again. That was just my situation.:wiggle:

I have the same issue at times. One thing you can do is "size" the target, this may help eliminate it. Another thing I'll do at times is dig a few inches and use my probe. If I dig down 3" and do not get a reaction from my pinpointer, I leave it. But, with all that said, a good exercise is, pass your coil over the target, size it, listen to the tone, esspecially around the edges, then, dig it. It's good to put a target to the tone so to speak. Do this exercise, and before too long, you'll know in a few passes of the coil whether you should dig or not.
