Getting hard to find places to detect. help?

Hey guys,

I haven't been active cause I was gone this summer marching with a world class drum corps. Anyways I am here in Fresno and I am finding it harder and harder to find good places to metal detect. I have one big park nearby but I usually don't have time to drive out to it. Basically I have been hitting up local neighborhood parks. In a city where else can you go really? Are there any obvious places that I am missing in a city besides parks? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Like Goes4Ever posted - private property is a great way to go - most old schools, churches, town parks, etc. have been hunted to death by others in the past.
You have to invest some time into talking to land owner's - but if you get permission to hunt their yard or vacant lot - odds are - it's never been hunted by anyone else before !

Good luck !

Construction sites can offer some good hunting as well or curb/sidewalk tear outs. As always, you should get permission to hunt.

Around me. , even virgin old yards are hard to find...in all neighboring cities.. We had a lot of detectorists for some reason .. And thirty years of door knockers makes it even hard to find a good OLD spot even on private land.. One thing I highly suggest if you ain't up to door knocking , is to get a new detector , or a new coil , or run it a different way , then go back to your old standby spots..This has always proven to get me some goodies That have been missed over the years..I have found more old coins in this park I detect this year , than any other year I have detected it.. Doesn't make sense , but I am running a hot program , and most of them are Deep! Good luck

I use ebay as a tool. I search towns that are close to me and towns where I may be traveling to. I search the town's name and state first. If there is too many hits I add "vintage or postcard or old or historic etc" You will be amazed at what you'll find. Just a quick search netted me this old postcard for you.

Wow thanks for all of the information. I think i will be going to houses to get permission. I know that you guys have a post somewhere talking about the best way to approach it. Any of you have a link to that or just have a tip for me in general. I have gone to one house before and I was very professional and asked if we could metal detect in his yard and told him we use towels and keep everything tidy and he agreed. Just want to make i do it right you know?

Sounds like you have got it figured out to me! If you have a extra detector offer it to the land owner to use if he's interested in trying out detecting.

Keep using the internet as a research tool. Keep getting better with your Etrac. No one EVER finds it all!

I dont just say this, I'm living it and I truly beleive it. I noticed I can find things that other people miss. After a year and a half Im getting darn good. I dug my deepest coin ever yesterday, a wheat penny at a bona-fide 9" deep not including about an inch of grass. I actually couldnt beleive there really was a coin down there! it was just a 56 wheat though, coins from the 90's can be 4" deep here. The reading was very iffy but something just said "dig me". the depth meter was pegged at the bottom. fun site, theres a lot more there too, even though i saw fresh plugs from other people, it doesnt discourage me. i beleive theres finds out there for all of us.
