Only my 2nd time out with the Xcal, and just the first time out with the chest mount mod and straight shaft.Still playing with settings, what to listen for, and adjusting the chest mount for comfort. Liking it so far!
Been difficult to find time to use it since I bought it over a month ago,.... tides, cold weather, and too much work are a few reasons.
Yesterday morning b4 work I gave it a few hours in knee deep water. Tide was low, water was calm and...,not too cold. Found some coin, stainless pendent and junk shell.....
Spring break has sprung...saw a few brave souls in the water around mid morning.
Two more doors to hang tomorrow, and I got nothing but me time for a couple of weeks. Weather looks good up till Thursday, then it should improve for the rest of the week. Hope the spring breakers get a chance to get wet and finds get better for all !!! GL

I run my Xcal in Disc, Sensitivity as high as possible without getting a bunch of falsing, disc as low as possible, volume full and threshold just to where I get a buzz. Bought it in August and have used it exclusively at the beach since October.

Due to the surf being so high and rough I have not been able to get into more than knee deep water this winter. I have found a couple of pieced of gold right at dead low tide at the very edge of the water. a couple where the current had washed a cut and two where the dune had been eroded down till there was a straight wall almost six feet tall. Also dug a bunch of clad along with a few pieces of sterling silver.

I like the Xcal but detest the headphones. Hoping that I can get Joe Beachnut to fix me up with a good set this fall some time.

You will get nothing but better with your Excall. Just keep swinging and take your time. I usually start with my sensitivity at 11 o'clock discrimination on 1 volume as loud as I can stand it and threshold where I can barely hear it. The sensitivity can be adjusted to smooth out your threshold. Try your machine in pin-point if there is not a lot of trash. I myself hunt in pin-point/all metal most of the time because I find deeper targets this way. Keep experimenting and you will find what works for you. Mark where you have hunted in disc. say 20 ft. and go back over in pin-point. May get surprised. HH :minelab:

Thanks for the information and encouragement on the Excals use and settings. I have no doubt that I will have a great time with it this summer. Having used a DF for the past couple of years, I'm not opposed to hunting in pinpoint and digging lots of targets. I'm a trial and error type of person, so applying different settings and hunting technics is not a problem when it comes to getting it right. GeorgeinSC, WW, hershey1....Thanks GL

The headphones are definately a weak point to confort and hearing deeper/smaller targets. I like to run a slight hum in dis just so you can hear the nulls, that lets me know to check around since a lot of times targets pool ...... heavy ones tend to mean gold could be there as well. but most times i hunt PP as well. every now and then i get my hands on a little gold.
