Getting CZ-3D

lovepulltabs

New member
Hi, I just traded for a CZ-3, looks a little complicated, used to have a CZ-7 a Pro years ago, but this one looks a little tougher to learn. My question is what's a good start up setting for this machine to get to learn it? Thanks!

turn it on!..ground balance it!..set disc to zero!..flip toggle to "advanced!"..sweep coil!..dig "high tones" find coins!

Sensitivity 4.5, Volume 10, Disc 0, Ground balance to your ground, dig every 2 way tone above iron. Don't be afraid to lower the sensitivity if you need to. 4.5 - 5 should be max you use.

One thing with these detctors is that you can run with a lower sensitivity and still find deep targets. I was used to running all my detectors on a sesitivity of 10 or max. I could do that in my area with no problems. I found that if you keep the sesitivity lower on the 3D it will perform the best. I have a test garden and if I turned my sens up to max it would not correctly ID the targets. On 5 it worked perfect. They are not complicated or hard to learn at all. I think you will enjoy it.....

It is important to understand the concept of the old and new modes..Google Tom Dankowski and you should find his forum and an excellent article he has written on the concept of the CZ3D...Have to admit they have changed the sens. parameters whereas somewhere between 4 and 5 should be the optimum for depth and stability whereas convential CZ's except the CZ70 pro some were able to run 6-7-8 and even a couple of rare cases where they actually maxed out at 10 but after using CZ's for many years the latter is hard to find. Down and dirty A CZ3D even set at a lower sens. will go as deep as a convential CZ with a much higher sens. After you do this just hunt like a convential CZ being aware of new and old areas. Piece of cake once you know the old and new concept...and it seems like many of the fellows changing over don't understand so do read Tom's article.

I can't figure out why everyone runs their sen at 4.5.I run my sen at 10 with no falseing and its hunts great.Whats up?

Like I said in the post above I have a test garden with different types of targets like coins, pulltabs, screwcaps, can slaw, etc, all buried at 6 inches. When turning my sensitivity up to 10 it will not read some of the targets correctly. With a lower sesitivity it seems to be right on. I really don't believe I lose much depth by running at 5. I can run it at 7 and it seems to be ok with that. I would have to get a longer digger if I ran it at 10......

I got a used cz3d last week as a back up to my f75. took it out 3 times and found 65 total coins, 20 wheaties and 2 mercs one of which was a 1918S. I am hunting in Northwest Indiana and the ground is tough, GB at 3. My sens stays at 4 because otherwise it goes stupid but I still dig pennies at 7 inches as well as a couple of damn beaver tail ends. lol. Put that baby in enhanced and let er ride. I dig all coin and 5 cent targets. I have found the zinc target in enhanced likes to give up stuff that isnt to desirable. TMAN...

I normally did not dig the zinc targets in the enhanced mode but I started to. I found a few zinc pennies in that zone but they also rang up lower on an X-Terra 70. I recovered a round ball that rang up high tone but once it was out of the ground it registered in the zinc zone. I am going to start digging more of those targets especially in areas with civil war relics....

Thanks to all for the advice! I'll check out the Tom Dankowski site. My CZ-3 is on the way, I traded straight up for a Vaquero w/ stock coil and 7X3" concentric coil. Forgot to mention the CZ-3 comes with a SunRay probe. Really liked the Vaquero but wanted to try something new.

Thanks for the trade lovepulltabs. Looking forward to receiving the Vaquero. With two other Fisher machines in my posession, I was interested in something different also. It should be a great machine for you. I have a CZ-5, which I finally got my hands on one, as my main machine. The cz's are like tanks. If any problems, just let me know. Thanks again.
