getting better -- pinpointing with the SOV -GT

after a week prakticing pinpointing its much easear and the sounds it makes , I am now ready to go back to that old house and kick sum but . What i have found pinponting in disq is when you hear the sound , lets say you are swinging to the right by the time you hear the sound the left edge of the coil is right over the target and when you revers it its on the other very easy nails are the hardest to pinpoint but i went out in all metal and just dug a bucket of them and got that down to Gunnar in minnesota

I use the tip of the coil to PP in discriminate and rarely use PP mode now, but I have found that one some real coins only the center of the coil will see it so I need to practice PPing with the middle of the coil. Never was good at that with a DD coil.

I wonder if you are swinging to fast if you are getting the signal on the opposite side of the coil, for me when I hear it the loudest the center of the coil is going right over it, there maybe a slight signal when it first see it on the very edge, but when it gets the center is when it is the best signal.
On pinpointing targets that are not real deep I just use the tip of my coil to pinpoint and find it back slightly. Now on the deeper signals and those that are iffy and you want to see if they are good or not i will do the 90 degree pinpoint where I switch to pinpoint and go side to side to get the best signal, then push the coil to the ground and turn 90 degrees and go side to side again for the best signal. Now the target will be right under the center of the coil and if you did it right you can dig a small plug deep and you will get the target. Now if it was a iffy signal and with the coil still right over the very center i will switch back to disc and slightly wiggle the coil and if it nulls out chance are it is iron or you pinpointed right on a iron object. If i get no tone change or it starts to climb with the slight wiggle i will be digging as these are the deep ones i want.
There has been cases where iron is close to a coin and when i go to pinpoint all metal I will see the signal will move to the iron, but with some experience you will know these as they sound just too good coming at it from different angles and like I say from experience I have to pinpoint them in disc and coming at the signal from different angle to know where to dig.

Good Luck with your Sovereign as they are great detectors for those that spend the time to learn them in the Field on actual targets, you cant learn them in the closet or air test as these are made for hunting actual targets where they do the best. My gold rings read in the ground different then on top of the ground or freshly buried. Coins will read better on actual targets deep than any air test will too, so get out to use it as much as you can and learn all you can each time out, it will pay off in the end.
