Getting a Whites MXT Pro!!!:yo:

Im picking it up this Friday! While I'm waiting, I was curious if some of you, who know this detector well, could give me some good pointers on techniques that the instruction booklets dont teach you.

I was also curious if any of you have searched for gold nuggets and found them with the MXT pro. I do a good bit of prospecting and I love swinging a metal detector so it would be a great thing to add to the hobby. I also love to search for silver and gold coins as well as jewelry!! Im really anxious to get this detector and take it out to some of my private locations and see if I can dig up some silver or gold coins!

Way to go on the MXT PRO!!! It is an awesome MD. To be honest with you, it took me the better part of a year to start to understand how this machine works. I am still trying to figure the dang thing out. The only way to learn is to put the time in. Sure, it's easy to dig up coins using presets but to really figure out what works best in your soil, you're going to have to practice hearing what certain tones are. Happy hunting!

Congrats! Once you get it in your hands and start "playing" around with it, you'll love it. I've always said, "Practice practice practice.", and you'll get to know that machine like the back of your hand. HH, Nancy

I think one of the best ways to figure it out is to take some change out of your pocket place it on the ground and run your coil over it. Note the VDI # of each coin, that will give you a good idea of what to look for. Oh by the way don't use the same denomination mix it up & don't forget to ground balance the md first. All coins are not going to hit the exact vdi but most will be close, & as Nancy & Lodi said practice. Dig all close vdi # that are close to what you get from your test, some times a coin is not flat in the ground & will give a slightly different VDI. I seldom listen to tones mainly because I can't hear I mainly watch the VDI # & after practice you will be able to find more than you would think. Rings & gold are another topic.

Thanks all! Yea, I find it best with any detector to just go out and learn it first hand. This will be the second detector that I've owned...The first was a Bounty Hunter QD2...Needless to say, the MXT pro is a big upgrade from that. I've found a lot of coins with the BHQD2 but NO silver...Im hoping the MXT pro helps me out with that. I have a lot of really great areas that would probably spit out LOTS of silver and maybe even some gold. They are virgin ground to detectorists (except me) and the properties date anywhere from the late 1700's to present. Im talking hundreds of acers of property!!! Word is there was a loan shark who distributed money up there in the mid 1800's maybe there were some coins dropped.... I guess I can only hope so....

Maybe you need some help on those properties. Please keep us posted on your finds........sounds very interesting! HH, Nancy

[size=large]from what i've read and seen most prospecting done with the mxt is with the 6x10 DD coil. there's some you tube vids that show how big a nugget has to be for the mxt to pick-up on it. i also recommend getting the book on MXTs. it's call," The MXT Edge" by Jeff Foster. lots better than the manual. otherwise it's like it been said. practice. it's not that hard a machine. you supposedly run it in relic for just a little more depth and check you targe by switching to coin mode. it also enjoys the best rep for relic hunting. so many differant coils for differant hunting. ya do want a pair of real good headphones. just to pick up those faint targets.

Okay, I have to say I am VERY impressed with the MXT Pro! I absolutely LOVE this machine! It's about time I get a decent detector! I went out the Friday that I got it and rescanned the ground that my Bounty Hunter QD2 had been over many times and I pulled out 4 or 5 coins just in that area alone. I then went to one of my favorite metal detecting spots and pulled up several dollars in clad coinage including 2 wheat pennies! I also dug a lot of trash because the MXT Pro was completely set on giving me a penny or dime signal for those darn screwcaps....grrrrr....I must've dug 30 screwcaps because of this. However, im still learning the detector.... I also found a watch which at first I thought was gold but after a look the watch more closely I noticed that the gold color was tarnished and somewhat rusting and that it was made in Hong Kong. Still a cool find nonetheless. I'm wanting to find some silver coinage but I guess that just takes time....

Just thought i'd throw that out there!

Thanks for the update. Oh yeah, silver will come your way. Wheats are always a good sign. HH, Nancy
