Getting a DeLeon!

Found a DeLeon at a price I couldn't pass up. Any tips & setting y'all care to share? I am used to my Cibola, but have been wanting a screened unit, and need some advice on what things generally read, etc.

depends what your hunting for i usually run my disc in between the f and o in word foil this will keep your nickel in and if you want gold rings watch the numbers for a lock-on of 41 and showing nickel in the block chances are its something good but nickels themselves on numbers 37to 40 IH pennies solid 68 just below zinc pennies, what i do is sometimes before i go out in the field for deep stuff sometimes the TID is not always acurate identifying so do a air test on different coins to see if they register different, i know on my teknetics gamma a dime that i have burried deep in al metal mode would register 40 in iron mode so little things like this will help i keep a log with me and if i get one of those good but small deep signals it might give me some idea to dig or not

as was said disc right around foil, if the bar graph and the numbers match dig it, if you show a solid bar on the graph but the numbers are jumpy dig it. I use mine mainly in tot lots and newer parks and it likes finding coins. the Deleon doesn't seem to disc. iron as well as the Cibola does but it's still better than alot of machines. don't put as much faith in the TID as you do with the sound of the target. I have dug quite a few that were jumpy on the TID but the sound was good and they ended up being coins. Good Luck.

Thanks guys, has anyone complied a numbers/graph chart for the Deleon & Cortes, like there is for Minelabs stuff? If so, please share a link. I'd like to print out a chart for pocket carry just to reference.

once i get this one i will make out a chart on different targets and depths and i do this in all metal to so i don't beleive that everyone is exactly alike so this is what i do!

i saw this in a forum, don't remember if it was here or where I found it

small gold 20-30
nickels 33-39
ladys gold ring 35-41
mens gold ring 41-54
lead bullet 58
rifle brass 62-68
zinc penny 66-78
all other coins 95

hope this helps

Sweet! that's the sort of thing I was looking for, Howdy. That will help a lot. It should allow me to skip the shredded lead that rings so sweet in the tot lots. The woodchips here are filled with threaded lead anchors of some sort.

Yeah, I've often wondered, since the middle portion of the graph was designed to separate the ID numbers the most, how it ID'd the pulltab that mimics the nickel. I read where the Fisher F-2 was able to separate the numbers so a lot of them could be ID'd-but you know how that goes.

I have noticed that with pulltabs you will get fairly consistent numbers but the bar graph will give you a smear. nickels will normally give a solid bar and number.

Wow-sounds like you really know your Deleon. Didn't realize it gave so much info. I have the Silver umax and I imagine that the famous "Tesoro talk" is also in the audio on the Deleon.

I'm gonna keep picking your brain, Howdy! You do seem very comfortable with the D.

Got my big D today! A touch heavier than the Cib, and the control box is larger, but not much. I never imagined to machines from the same company, both single-tone units, could sound SO totally different! :surprised:
The D has a completely different voice than the Cib. The Cib's trash sound is VERY subtle--the D, well, it sounds like a grain grinder on trash, a very trashy sound. I hear that and already I know it is can slaw (yes I dug it to check too). Seems to hit hard on dimes, (10 tonight) and nickles !! First time I have found 5 nickles in one tot lot. I am holding out hopes of finding some 10-18K with this detector! I like it.

just remember lock on numbers for gold 37 to 41 and if its white gold its solid 7 in the iron range which i thought was kind of odd?
