getting 505 figured out/2hrs finds

Found out the only short in my new 505 was the improper connection between my fingers and the sens dial. My 60th birthday today so to celebrate I left the hay field early this afternoon and headed into town to the county fair grounds. Thought that the area where they set up the carnival rides and gyp joints every year would be a good place to see if I was getting the settings halfway close. Spent two hours there trying different adjustments, finally got the pull tabs dialed out but of course lost nickels and gold rings. About the time I was starting to hit some coins and able to tell what was junk and not dig it, a man drove up on a 4-wheeler and asked me if I was finding anything. I told him some pennies and a lot of pull tabs. He said that I probably would not have much luck as there was a fella that hits that place hard every year right after the fair is over and then there are about 3 other guys work it fairly regularly. I told him it was still a good place to practise setting my machine and he said good luck and drove off. I then bent over and dug out the dime that had signaled just as he drove up. worked this area randomly with both the505 with the stock coil and the tracker 4 with a 4 inch coil and had my best day since getting these machines two weeks ago. Score for today- 4 quarters, 5 dimes, 4 nickels, 27 pennies, 5 tokens, two necklace cross pendant's ( 1 gold 1 silver ) and two coat pockets full of trash. will try to upload a picture. If it comes up notice the penny that someone sawed into a keystone. The coins are all clad but that's ok I am extremely thrilled and absolutely sold out to the "addiction" ( no cure needed ) Ed in colo.

Glad to hear your learning your machine and finding the loot...sounds like your off to a great start...Yeah...Once your hooked, the only things that can stop ya are a broken back, and death...May they both rot in ****...lol

HH,

Sounds like you are off to a great start and having fun. If you found nearly 50 good targets in 2 hours, I don't think those other guys are hitting that site very hard. Just a tip, I wouldn't keep the trash I find in my coat pocket. You might throw away something important like your car keys, when you go to clean out the pocket. Plus sharp pieces of metal will tear away at your jacket. Go to a hardware store or builder's supply and get a cheap nail apron or something.

Good luck and take care, Dave

Glad you are getting it figured out Ed. Looks like you did great to me.
You have 2 good detectors to help you get the job done.
Happy belated birthday by the way. Good hunting to you ! Gene

I found the DVD helped me more than anything to figure the Notch & Disc setting on the 505.. Although I still mostly use Auto Notch, I do use Disc with the knob low & sensitivity as high as I can. Although it has been less than 2 weeks, I have more than $35 clad with over 230 coppers, & 3 sterling silver rings. It is very different from the T-IV I was using! I did find a 1919 wheatie today in a quick scan of what used to be part of a schoolyard until 10 yrs ago. Also a 1967 quarter & couple of 60-70 coppers so there is some promise to the location...
I hope to get better results by experimenting with the modes & settings now and to start using my 4" coil to see what works. I have been working a small older park that seems untouched & need to pull off the clad & the MAJOR beer drinking trash. I have been ignoring the Zincs, only pulling copper & clad, but no wheaties or silver here yet. I know it's there and will keep working on it. Hopefully, Learning as I go. Hell, if it was TOO easy everyone would be doing it !!

Great job Ed :super: Your off to a great and addicting start. Can't always believe a spot has been hunted out.
Doc- for less than 2 weeks thats amazing..

I will again testify about the AWESOME Pioneer 505 !!! I went to local Jr High lot on the bequest of a friend who lost a school ring recently, In the 2 hrs of daylight I had left I found about $2 in clad & coppers and the bright spot in my day "1907 Barber Dime !! as well as a Sterling Mens Ring that was missing the stone.. The Barber dime was about 7" down and rang clear. I was sure it was clad until I saw the soft white of silver..Who would have expected a 102 year old dime in the newly renovated Jr High BallField??.. The Surprises just keep on coming. DOC
