Hi all;
I am gettin back into the sport after a while away..I have yet to handle a Tesoro, but am very interested. I am in Canada, Outside Toronto, will be doing parks, Schools, Old Churches, Farms, Homesites, as well as beach Huntin (and SaltBeach once a year too) I was looking @ the Golden umax, but also am looking at theEldorado and Tejon?? Any firsthand exp with these, and suggestions??
Thanx a million!

I think a lot of people could give you positive reports on most of these dectectors. I've seen some great finds that people have found with each model you have mentioned. I just looked at Tesoro's website, and there are a few dealers in the Toronto area. My advice to you would be to go to the dealers and try those models you mentioned, and get the input of the dealer from your area. I wish I had done something like that when I bought my detector, because I would have found that while it is a great detector(the Cortes), it may not be the best suited for the area that I live. I havent used the models you have listed, but I'm sure someone will give you details on each one. I am gonna be getting the Tejon next week and am eager to learn its traits. Good luck in hunting for a detector.

I have had them all....the Tejon is the best non metered detector from Tesoro.
If you have the money ....buy it.

Hopefully, it's not too late.
KISS (Keep It Simple, Silly)
Giving the respect due the other responders (including the venerable Monte), you've veered WAYYYYYY into apples vs. oranges territory. And if anyone on Monte's level had any sense, they'd have pointed out this very basic fact to you.
The Golden, the Tejon and the Eldo are totally different machines, but IMO for basic stuff like you want to do, you're not only considering machines that have vastly diffrent functions, but you're also considering machines that may or may not be overkill (read lots more $$$$$ than you really need to spend) for what you really want to do.
Do you know how to manually ground balance a detector, or do you want something that just turns on and goes right out of the box with no previous experience necessary? If not, then you have no business messing with a Tejon or an Eldorado.
Notch disc is fine and dandy, but it has it own set of joys and annoyances and it's by far not foolproof. A Golden is by far away and above an Eldo or a Tejon as far as turn on and go is concerned right out of the box, but there's some mastery involved (which requires lots of practice and digging tons of trash crapola that not even the recycling guy wants, no matter how many trash bags full of pull tabs you bring him).
If you're a serious beginner, save yourself a hundred bucks or twop and buy yourself a Silver and explore this hobby to your heart's content by training and sharpening your ear and your eye. If you're something of a seasoned vet, well, just buy something that won't piss off the wife and work it out as far as the controls go because, well, you've already been thru this before ... nothing much has changed.
