Get The Lead Out!!!!

Nice cool day yesterday in SWMO got out for a few hours to a campsite that some buds and I have been working on. I recently got a 10" Excellerator DD and it was the 1st time out with it. I found 3 large pieces of camp lead in one hole, they were 12" deep, over a pound of lead was found along with the nice drop.54 3 ringer and a 1895 Barber quarter. So far I am really impressed with the 10"DD I think it has the same seperation as the 6x10, but the depth is a lot better!! HH MO

I hate when I get chunks of lead. Sure like getting the Barber quarters though. Very nice! HH to all, Nancy

Well Nancy, the chunks of lead are really a good sign in this case. It means that they were pouring/making bullets there, and I just dug into a CW campfire pit!!!:bouncy:

OK, I have a question for you Mark. I understand the melting of the lead for bullets, but why isn't the lead the same color of the 3 ringer? Did they mix leads back then when casting the bullets? Since all the lead spills, that is a very cool place and keep us posted on the finds. Good luck and thanks! Nancy

My guess Nancy is that the ash kept the lead from oxidizing as much as a bullet just found in the soil. I have made other great finds in that area, but yesterday was my 1st time there with the MXT.....Here are some more from that area.

Mark, that's one heck of a great source for hunting. Big congrats on your finds. It's so great to see the finds of others. It's such a wonderful piece of history that you've uncovered and specially if it's shared. Thanks so much. You did great! Nancy
