get permission from the right person

ok hears the story. went to a local church that i had been wanting to detect for awhile but had a hard time catching people there to ask for permission. finally someone there so i stopped, this was a saturday. the guy i talked to was an older man in a suit and tie so i asked him about the property and what i would like to do. after a short but pleasent conversation he said it would be fine to detect on the property and come back any time. i first hit the baseball feild and found some nice stuff, buffalo nickles, wheaties, 1936 walking liberty half and planned to go back the next day. so sunday i show up start detecting for about an hour when these two guys come walking over and ask what i was doing so i explained then they asked if i had permission to be there and of course i said yes so the asked who gave it to me and i explained that i was there yesterday and asked an older man but just got his first name. These guys inforned me that yesterday a group had the dining hall at the church rented and no one there that day hade the athority to give me permission to use the property. Now that is some funny sh#t glade i found the walking liberty on saturday.LMAO

Sunday detecting on church property will get someones attention.
Lots of service's and activity on that day at that location
Not a good day to be there go midweek or early mornings
evenings less chance of running into people that will question what your doing.
Get permission from someone like you did write down phone number
and full name to keep as your rights to be there.

Joel is right on, but making sure you're asking the right person makes sense regardless of what type of location you're asking about.

We live in a What's Mine is Mine and What's Yours is Mine Too kind of society today...Sad that that guy would do that to you...The Correct answer would have been... "Gee, I am sorry, but we are only renting this space for the day..."

metal detecting a church on a sunday is asking for trouble things to keep in mind the fewer people that are around when you are mding the better less chances of someone being against you enjoying the hobby you did right bye getting permission but damn dude going on sunday hope you had headphones on so they didnt hear beeeep beeeppp that might get even the most passive person alittle pissed ya know its kinda like pulling up to a park with a backhoe ready to find goodies lol

i did have head phone and i was about 100 yards away from the church building in the baseball feild that was on the property.
