I have some ID and tonal machines, but grabbing the Compadre and "snap" hunting still gives me a rush. Basically, it's ignoring blipsand broken signals and scooping up the snappers! A penny dropped on the ground and quickly swept gives an idea of a "snap" signal and a teeny piece of wadded up foil sort of sums up the others-and of course is only done on a weekly searched school or tot lot, park, etc.
The most unusual is the snap near poles or rebar sidewalks. As I neared one of the metal toy horses base, the usual prolonged tone appeared and then suddenly a break in the signal and two quick snaps and a dime and a penny near the base appeared when the bark chips were removed. A quarter and dime near the sidewalk repeated the scenario. Of course, nickels have a really noticeable snap.
What about small targets? See the two gold(maybe) pins? They even had a snap. Snap is the key. Takes time to recognize some signals, but still fun!
