I have some ID and tonal machines, but grabbing the Compadre and "snap" hunting still gives me a rush. Basically, it's ignoring blipsand broken signals and scooping up the snappers! A penny dropped on the ground and quickly swept gives an idea of a "snap" signal and a teeny piece of wadded up foil sort of sums up the others-and of course is only done on a weekly searched school or tot lot, park, etc.
The most unusual is the snap near poles or rebar sidewalks. As I neared one of the metal toy horses base, the usual prolonged tone appeared and then suddenly a break in the signal and two quick snaps and a dime and a penny near the base appeared when the bark chips were removed. A quarter and dime near the sidewalk repeated the scenario. Of course, nickels have a really noticeable snap.
What about small targets? See the two gold(maybe) pins? They even had a snap. Snap is the key. Takes time to recognize some signals, but still fun!

Once you play with a Compadre it's hard to let it go. Hard to believe such a simple machine can be so good and fun.

Understand the feeling. Been letting my V3i sit & learning to listen to sounds only with my Vaquero lately.

I find myself more engaged with the hunt with my Tesoro's. I've had the high dollar technical machines and though good, I have more fun and satisfaction with my Tesoro's. Don't have the Compadre, but may in the future.

I'll have to do this test to understand "snap" when mine arrives. :)

I don't use it too often-just on sites I search every week. In other words, I know if anything has recently been dropped, it's gonna give a sharp, audible signal. LEARNING then Compadre is a different story altogether. A quarter at 6", for example, is gonna be a soft, round signal. AND, depending where you set the discrimination, the Compadre is gonna hit some stuff other detectors ignore.

crack that whip , gee I near broke out in to song, if you are Devo fan you will understand :poke:

cant beat the one knob wonder in many styles of hunting but it sure is good at whip cracking :lmfao:

good job on the finds.

Ok. I'll have to do some testing with it. Thinking of setting disc low and then thumbing when I find something. Just try to understand the machine.
My ace isn't as easy. Keeps saying coins and I dig aluminum. Or caps. Or tabs. I can't decipher that thing lol. In time maybe. But I look forward to learning the compadre. They get alot of live and for the price, it was worth a try and I hope I like it half as much as the other people that post and write reviews about it.
Went for the 8 in and finding myself withing I got the 5.75 sometimes.... seems that's all that's in the videos on YouTube. Hope the 8 works well.
I enjoyed your post!!!

My Ace is RIGHT ON the money almost all the time. Try hunting at 3 bars sensitivity, as deep tabs set the thing off with one-way signals when you're at high sensitivity -especially in high trash areas. I never go above 4 bars-as suggested by Bill Revis-a former Ace guru on this forum. And 3 bars suffices in most parks, schools, trashy areas.

I like the small coil the best, but REVIER says the 8" coil is capable of finding coins next to playground equipment with practice.

I am curious as to what you mean by "Snap" do you mean a short signal??? I swing both a Tejon and Vaquero, is this a compadre thing?
No. I have a Silver and a Royal Sabre-it's a Tesoro characteristic due to the fast reset they're famous for. It's just the normal sound a coin makes within the first couple of inches beneath the coil with a brisk sweep speed. With the Compadre set near foil discrimination, questionable targets will have a skip, or something less than a snap or coin signal. In other words, Since most targets in a weekly searched area are gonna be near the surface, why bother with little "iffy" signals. Sorry if I made it sound mysterious. Otherwise, I hunt differently in a new, promising site. I'm jealous- wish I had a Tejon!

Well at that price point for the compadre, after I get my fors core or relic that is, I can just get the 5.75 also. Have the best of both worlds while still keeping my lifetime warranties!!

Been hunting the Compadre around shore line of couple local lakes recently. Sucker hits a split shot pretty hard, amazing. Couple years hunting got about 12 pounds of lead saved up. Gonna aim for 20 then sell.

yeah why don't I keep that lead used to have got slack I think :poke: Compadre seem to do well on lead along with the ctx interesting duo op ends of spectrum both find stuff :wiggle:
