German Railroad date nails adventure...

Bavaria Mike

New member
This adventure took place in August 2006 and was inspired by a forum friend that lives in Southern Arizona USA. I saved this post for winter when I got frozen in and that time is now, it was 13F/-11C yesterday morning. After reading many of my friend

Enjoyed the tour as usual. After seeing how collectable Railroad items are, and how individual date nails have sold on E-Bay for $100. ea. I have hunted for them as well. (The same way on abandonded tracks, & carrying a hammer). We found some from the 20's/30's.....
I'll try to post a picture.....
You just gave me an idea of how to find more nails as the town I grew up in we usted to walk along what they called the "old trestle" in the woods. Which was once a raised train track bed that no tracks are left now. I always thought of detecting for nails along there, but figured it was loaded with iron spikes & such. With the ID detectors we have now, I could run the ones I have under the coil & se what # they read & just dig that number maybe. As long as they don't read the same as the spikes I may be in bizness. I'll let ya know.......
later,
Bill
