Anyone have any clues on this?

Berlin iron jewellery . 1916. to fund WW2.
Gold gab ich zur Wehr, Eisen nahm ich zur Ehr (I give gold towards our defence effort and I take iron for honour)

It would help if I could read German. But since I can't I'm guessing possibly something to do with the 1916 Olympics that were supposed to be held in Berlin but were canceled on account of WW1...Cool find.

Wow thanks very much! The net is amazing for information...

I wonder if its real? I know its been buried for along time....

I thought olympics also but the words make sense when you know the story...

thanks taz for info

German equivalent to war bond... Except the iron token was tangible.

Very nice find.. Where did you dig this up?

I dug this at a old homestead with a remains of a barn. Couple that owned was from germany. I found 2 other coins 1920 & 1924 within 3 feet of this piece and at about 8inches. So , Im guess its been lost since 1924 or so. The signal was just to good to pass up. No one had ever metal detected on this property. No one had been in the remains of the barn for at least 30 years. I look forward to going back!

edjcox....do you know something about these?

You should take it to a coin shop and see if they know of a token expert guy who can put a value on it. I've read the silver trimmed ones are scarce. Super cool find.

thanks for the tip...I will do just that!

Just an old Kraut who's lived here most of his life (born to a US Parent over there). Can read German and the translation is spot on.

Das es goot! Danke
