I've discovered a software glitch in the CTX that Minelab has verified.
When you are recording a GeoHunt, you can't edit one of your patterns without locking up the GeoHunt feature until you turn the detector off and back on.
Try the following:
When you are recording a GeoHunt, go to one of your modes and edit one of the patterns. Now exit and save the pattern. Now when you go back to your detect screen, you will see that the red recording status light is off. Also, when you press and hold the Find button, you will see that Record is grayed out. The only way to get GeoHunt to work after this is to turn the detector off and back on. In some cases, you have to do a Factory Reset.
According to Minelab, you can pause the GeoHunt until you make the edit, and then restart the GeoHunt when you're done. I haven't checked this, but it makes sense that it should work. Either way, this is a software bug that needs to be fixed.
I discovered this problem when I noticed that my GeoHunts were always cut short even when I never turned the detector off or lost the GPS signal. This happened time after time, so I contacted Minelab and eventually returned the detector for a replacement. When this replacement CTX had the same problem, it came down to either operator error or a software glitch. Minelab couldn't duplicate the problem even with all my files and copies of my GeoHunts. So I took it upon myself to figure this out which I did through a lot of trial and error. I'll have to say that Minelab has bent over backwards to accommodate me on this issue, and I'm confident that they will offer us a software update soon.
