Geode Hunting

What would you prefer to do. We can walk the creeks and find 6 or 8 keepers. Or, We could go to an open pit mine and come out with more with better quality. Open pit is like metal detecting. You never know whats down there until you dig it. I will leave it up to what you would like the best. Happy New Year everybody.

Welcome to the club. You will find a great bunch of people here. Geode hunting sounds like something I could get back into. We did a lot of it 40+ years ago. We had a place in Brown County that had dolomite geodes and we also made a lot of trips to Mildred Shefflers pit dig. Daryl

Daryl, Thanks for the welcome. Your not going to believe this. Shefflers is where i go when I want to mine. It's a small world.

We were working the original pit the many times we were there years ago. I know of some huge geodes came from the original pit (too big to fit into a 5 gallon bucket). My last visit with Mildred was in 1973. I keep thinking I should go back while she is still around. Maybe this spring. Daryl

It all sounds good to me. I've always loved rock hunting.

We will just wing it when the time comes. I am soooooo looking foward to doing this. :clapping:

Robbie, First let me thank you for the offer. I would like to try both at some time. Just need to know what equipment is needed and when you want to go. If there is any special things needed I might need a little time to get them. I have found some small geodes along the Mississippi before. I just walked along the edge and spotted them. I split them with a brick chisel. HH
