GeoCommunicator may help show you mine claims

:usmc: GeoCommunicator is sponsored by BLM and the Forest Service. One of the guys in town who metal detects mentioned this site to me today. Our interest is more along the lines of finding active and closed mining claims in the area and BLM and Forest lands and boundaries. Have played with it a bit and though it may not be exactly up to date (may not show recent new claims), it shows a placer mine I know is active and I also know who is working it so it seems to be accurate in his case.

I have not explored the full potential of this site but I'm impressed so far. It's our own responsibility to know what lands we are on and that we are not jumping someones mining claim or trespassing on private lands or restricted government reservations for instance. I will use it as a tool but will not expect it to be 100% accurate in all cases. There is one other claim I know was being worked up high here and have been to it with the miner working it but it appears to no longer be active. May explain why I have not seen him and his wife in over a year.
