General Questions about the Tejon

I've been thinking about getting a Tejon for some time, but I wanted to get some more info. on it from other detectorists. Just had a couple of questions about general use/performance. First, I've heard that the Tejon does'nt do the best in heavily mineralized soil. Most of my detecting is done in MD and VA, but to be honest, I'm really not sure if the ground here would be considered heavily mineralized or not. Would love to hear from some fellow Marylanders/Virginians about their Tejon experiences in our home state soil!
Second, I've been looking into the Fisher F75, but I'm 16, and dont exactly have the luxury of dishing out the extra 400+ $ with no worries...
Is there that much of a difference in the two machines?

Thanks for your time, and good luck diggin!

Look on youtube...F75 vs Tejon. Yes there are differences, but if your budget can afford a Tejon, then go for it. I have a Tejon and I really like it, I live just north of you and it does well here, even in mineralized soil. I have both, but you must make your own decision, based on how and what you are using it for. Good luck!

Great to see you doing research on different detectors and asking questions. With that attitude, you will do very well in this hobby.

I think the Tejon would be a unit you can use and do well with for a very long time. Not sure if you also looked at the Tejons first cousin, the Vaquero. In reading posts, it seems the V does a little better in mineralized soil, but the T is a tad deeper and has some other features like dual discrimination and variable pitch for the tone.

The Tejon is a great detector! Dosnt have the bells and whistles that the f75 has, but that dosnt make it an infeior machine. Ive found that target id machines are no more accurate than beep and dig machines. For example, I hunt parks for coins and jewlery. Ive found at least 5 different kinds of pull tabs that discr. out at different levels. Even with a good ID number, it would be hard to tell one of these many pull tabs from the many sizes of gold rings. Only way to b sure is to dig! With the Tejon, I set up my discr. and if it gives a solid repeatable beep, i dig! Ive had mine since January 2011, so far ive found 426 coins( clad) 2 rings, 3 silver necklaces, gold tiger pendant, 2 tokens, and too many oddities to list! If your really serious about finding the goodies than the Tejon fits the bill. If you only want to dig good targets,(cherry pick) and not spend alot of time, than maybe a target ID machine would better suit you. But you WILL miss alot of good targets with that ID machine! Those who find the most, Dig the most! HH!:detecting:

I got both machines and both are very gud units.
I changed out the stock coil on the tejon and bought the 6x10 DD.
Like it very much.

I agree! I use the 5.75 widescan exclusively! Works very well in the trashy areas and runs very stable with this coil!
