I know this is a bit off topic but...........
Has anyone ever been to any of the gem mines in NC.
And if so how was your luck? Any information would be great.
Thanks Matt

Yea, had a great time. I made sure we went to a mine in Franklin that wasn't salted. I wanted to get the real thing. In five hours my wife and I got about 40 rubies. We got lots of other gems also. It was cheap and we dug to our hearts content.

LOTS of fun. Go to the visitor's center in Franklin and they will give you the information and a map on all the places. Most are salted but there are a couple that are not. There is one out near the airport that you go up in the hill and dig your own dirt. You pay one price and can dig all day.
