GBP V4 "Silver Tweak"

berryman

New member
I've read a couple of posts where folks have said that FT tweaked the V4 software of the GBP to improve its silver finding capabilities. Does anyone know if this is the truth or is it just an urban legend?

berryman --

I don't think it was the V4 that was "tweaked." Some early versions of the Pro were not doing so well on silver at depth, as I understand it. This was fixed during the evolution of the unit. I don't know at what point the "fix" was made, but I do know that it happened before V4 was released -- because to the best of my knowledge, all V4 machines do well on both low AND high conductors.

The silver problem came with the introduction of the Gold bug SE 2.9 version software.
The 2.9's that went out were fixed at the factory when returned and a 3.0 as well as 4.0 version software were released. If memory serves correct the only difference between the 3.0 and 4.0 is the time the target I.D remains on the screen. Their are also G2s out there with version 1 that came out after the 4.0 software as I have one. Wish Someone could shed some light on that for me.(DAVE?)LOL

godigit -- this is NOT "from the horse's mouth," instead it's what I THINK is true, but not sure, so I don't want this to be taken as gospel. But, having said that, I THINK version 1 G2 software is the same thing as version 4 Gold Bug Pro software. Reason being, there WAS no "G2" initially; the Gold Bug had software version 1 (prototype?), and 2, and 2.9, and 3, and then 4 -- with version 4 being the "finalized" Gold Bug Pro version. At that point, the G2 was also introduced, and thus they called the "finalized" version 4 GB Pro software, when installed into a G2, version 1 G2 software. Perhaps there were some G2s where the software version showed up as version 4 -- which I would presume was version 4 Gold Bug Pro software which was for some reason (mistake?) not "re-named" version 1 G2 software. Bottom line here is, G2 software, and the "final version" Gold Bug Pro sofware, are the SAME SOFTWARE.

Again, don't take this as gospel, but I THINK this is true.

Hey Steve,
I just found this post sorry for not replying sooner.
I think your right as that is pretty much the way I understand the progression or revisions as well.
I just got a version 4 GB in a trade so now I have a GB 2.0 (saturated audio) and 1.0 G2.
Ill tell you the G2 I have has a much different personality! The iron signal with tone break set at 40 on the G2 is more of a choppy grunt almost mixed with a nulling where as both GBs give a nice low tone grunt. Also my G2 will overload on just about anything on the surface nickels, bottle caps, pull tabs, copper pennies and so on. But I have found a use for this overloading as it will also overload on heavy black sand concentrations. I can totally trace the patches without even looking at the ferrous meter. (Very Fast)
I have not tried the 4 on black sands yet but the 2 version I can hunt the sands but only the top couple inches at best.
I intend to do a little comps just for S -N- Gs but it should be fun.
