GBII/Coin Shooting

I am new to this hobby. Just recently bought a new GOLD BUG II to hunt for nuggets and meteorites but as I have discovered old building sites throughout the desert, have now developed an interest in shooting for coins/relics also. I've been told that I can't use my detector for this and will have to either trade it in for something else or purchase an additional detector. Is this true?

If I can use my GBII for this, are there any settings which may work best for me? Appreciate any input. Thanks.

Whoever told you that the GB isn't good for relic/coinshooting doesn't know what they are talking about. I have a G2 and once I ground balance and switch to disc, I set the disc at 40 with the sens as high as it will go and still stay stable and have at it. The GB like the G2 is very good in iron trashy areas. You will hear the low tones and then it will give you a high tone when you hit a target that is not disced out. HH

Is this the 71khz gb or the new 19 khz gb. If its actually a 2 it is primarily a nugget shooter. That doesn't mean you could not use it for other stuff just not suited for it. The 71khz will be much harder to relic hunt and coin hunt with due to its extreme sensitivity and lack of discrimination. If you want to prospect coin shoot and relic hunt go for the new Gb pro if you can.

Before the GBSE and G2--there was the original Gold Bug (GB)---then the Gold Bug II (GB2--at 71 khz).-----The GB2 you have has an iron disc (check) and is fine for hunting gold & meteorites but would be MUCH harder to coin hunt with as it doesn't have a disc range/target I.D. (as does the GBSE & G2).---Plus, at 71 khz, that is VERY high for this application (coins)--compared to the GBSE/G2 at 19 khz.-----Relic hunting with the GB2?---Yeah, I guess--you are digging MOST targets anyway--but you probably wouldn't be getting the depth you are needing with that machine (for relics).--------Bottom line & simple solution----trade it in on the great GBSE or G2, get the 5" DD coil (along with the 11" DD stock coil) and you have ALL bases covered (gold, coins, relics AND YES, meteorites). ;)----------Del--------P.S. So there isn't any mis-understanding---we are talking about three different machines here---the GB2, GBSE and G2. (although the GBSE & G2 are VERY much alike).
