GBg the Cortes in all metal

I've used the Cortes and the Silver for a few years now. Love them both. While ground balancing the Cortes (all metal); will it hunt silently? Does anyone else have a hard time ground balancing the Cortes in all metal? I usually end up going to minimum discrimination and mid-to-
high sensitivity and achieve good results. Is there an advantage of using all-metal on the Cortes?

I think you need to re-read the instructions for any of the manual ground balance detectors. To achieve a proper ground balance, they have to be adjusted in all metal with an audible threshold. And, to hunt in all metal, one should be able to hear a slight threshold hum, not silent. The discrimination circuit on the Cortes is a factory preset ground balance so it's not affected by the ground balance adjustment knob at all. The setting you're using would work the same if you never touch the ground balance adjustment. Hunting in all metal will give the maximum depth the detector is capable of and can be used to size a target. It'll also pickup every small piece of trash and drive you nuts in trashy areas. After ground balancing in all metal (as explained) I generally hunt set pretty much the way you describe. Low disc. sensitivity a bit below max and go.
