GB SE vs GB Pro

gmanlight

New member
I see big K and others are now selling the GB Pro with 5 in coil for 649.00 and have the GB SE 5 in coil for 499.00
Big K said thy have less than 30 GB SE units left and a price hike was coming on new units .
So what does the Pro do the SE cant.

....you read the add there is nothing different between the SE and the PRO as far as the features are explained. The only claim was more sensivity but every manufacturer claims that.

Something would have to be gained in the PRO I would hope. Still comes with just the 5" coil. So.......who knows. I wish Fisher would make clear what the diffferences are when the release an upgraded model. With the F75LTD you clearly had a gain in the Boost mode...so thatw as easy to see in the add but here...man I can't see what justifies the extra coin. Has to be something significant.....would be nice if it had the same sensivity to deep targets as the cheaper Cabela's version does. All my Cabela's were deeper than my SE's by an inch or more sometimes?

Hopefully someone here will drop $650.00 for one that ALREADY has an SE so they can compare the two together to see if there is any real world gains. Would be nice.

I certainly am not buying any more machines at this point. With the current economy as it is my days of buying just to see the differences are ALL DONE.

Not going to do much good if a person has not used an SE to try and relate if the PRO has gained anything other than $150.00. I wonder if anyone has field tested it prior to it's release?

azsh07 i thought you were the official GB tester ha ha . FT has come out with some nice equipment but some of there
moves have been confusing to aggravating. From the names to release dates can make your head spin.
Through in a little misinformation and forget it. The old saying you don't get a second chance at a first impression
are words FT should live by. As i was rereading the big K ad at the bottom of the page it says
upgrade to the Gold Bug 2 for a few dollars more , which is older and nothing like the Pro.

If You read all the adverts it shouldnt be much difference other then an introductory price on the SE...

Differences should be very hard to recognize I think.

Just bought me an SE myself while they were available, not here yet but cant wait....

I believe Dave Johnson said changes would be minimal.
Many warned of a price hike on later models.

I have the SE and like what i see but need more time on it .
At the same time i would put down 100 spot for a few more inches but i wont sell my SE at a loss
for it either.

I have tested one thing for them on the SE but I am not one of the regular field testers.
I would have liked to been able to get one to test but...than again maybe that would not have been in anyones best interest? I suppose if there is no significant gain between the SE and the PRO there really would be no need to have them field tested.
I heard rumors months ago that the sensivity was going to be upped but that was not from Fisher so it is about as usefull as any other rumor.
Wish i could get my hands on one to test as I would report any changes but it is not in the cards for me. Unemployment has finally kciked the man down....:)

The only "Pro" I'm getting is gonna be green.;)

I love my SE but I think I'll wait for the Super Pro version rather than possibly gaining a half an inch on the Pro. Can't really believe the Pro has any more power than the SE. I'm sure someone will compare them.

Happy with my SE. With the 11" coil it is a light and well balanced combo. I set my Desc. at 80 and Gain at 100. I noticed I was finding wheaties and older mems at 4" and they are really green. PP is as easy as it gets. Never used an eliptical or DD before so was amazed it hits on the round mfg spot on top of coil and it is so easy to swing all day. Im keeping this one.

Hi
When I sent my Gold Bug back to the USA I included a three page letter with about a page of help-full :lol:hints on improvements for the Pro version.
Some suggestions were:-
AUTOMATIC ground tracking. Here in Australia the ground is just so variable that it is rather annoying having to GROUND GRAB several times every swing. Playing with the GB the other day in some highly mineralised ground the ground phase indicator was swinging from 76 to 84 and it was most annoying to use. The only way to shut it up was to run it in discriminate mode and it was then easy enough to put up with and targets were easily found. Only nails and ferrous rubbish unfortunately but gold has been found there on previous occasions.

Another annoying feature is the change over from all metal to discriminate. Perhaps the Pro has a toggle switch so instead of having to reset the threshold every time the change over is made a simple click is all that is needed.

There were a few other help-full hints (some have been resolved with the recalibration) and I hope Dave Johnson got a copy of the letter so he has now incorporated all (or even a few) of them into the Pro.:clapping:

Cheers

Steve D

From what I see, the big difference is between the manuals. For $150, you get the Word pro on your manual! Looks pretty lol

Over this last weekend, the Fisher marketing manager, a Fisher dealer, and 2 Fisher engineers went Ghost Town hunting in Wisconsin, using the New Improved Gold Bug "Pro". From what I understand, the most noticeable was the gain increase for the "Pro" model. That word "Gain" stuck in my mind the most. We'll see very shortly as my "Pro" models will be at my shop this Thursday the 7th. I'll keep you posted if in fact there is a increase.

Mr. Bill

Waht is meant by gain? What is it, what does it do? I don't understand a lot of the technical terms used.

Thanks, El

..an increase in sensitivity. It is an electronics term in relation to a circuit. Problem is just because there is an increase in 'gain' in a circuit does not mean you will absolutely see a difference in depth.
However I think in this case you can take it that there may be a small increase in ability to detect targets. Are we talking an extra inch or so in depth? Well who knows until a few people who ALREADY HAVE an SE can compare it.
I certainly hope that it gains a bit in depth to get it closer to what the "C" version can do for depth.

a increase in depth of 1/2" would mean the difference between hearing the target or not.

I'll have them here this Thursday, I'll let you all know.

Mr.Bill

My dealer got the pro i ordered[in may?] we done a quick comparison, nothing about the pro stood out at me,mind you this was no more than air testing, and comparing manuals. The dealer still has a se,I think thats the direction I am going to go.And you are right dwayne the only diff. in the manual is the word pro!!
