GB SE First Impressions........

Well, been checking it out in my test area an I am impressed so far. The ground is rock hard here now but it works rather well. I have a .69 cal minnie buried at a measured 10". The GB in disc mode on 0 will not hit it, but in all metal it bangs it hard. Kinda reminds me of the T-2, which was the same way. It does hit hard on brass because I have a Union coat button at 6" that it will nail hard, even with the gain at 50%. I hope for rain for our area this fall, as I think the GB SE will be a killer relic machine in really trashy iron areas in the camps that I have worked to death with other detectors..........

Morerelic...what did the .69 minnie ID at on the arc when in all metal ? Just curious. I agree the all metal mode on this unit is great.

Also, did you try to sweep the coil pretty fast and tight over the minnie in discriminate mode ? I found that when hitting deep targets in all metal and then checking in discriminate and sweeping the coil pretty fast and tight, you can get faint repeatable hits and the ID will settle in. Gotta use good headphones with the volume up since the audio is modulated.

The .69 ID was in the 70's and yes, I tried everything I could to bring it in on disc mode. I know it will do better when the ground has moisture in it again. I was using the 11" bi-axial coil. I will have to get use to the disc set-up. I like the way you can select the tone cut off and the VCO.Wish the TID would show up on the big readout in All Metal Mode :bouncy:

I hear ya about the ID number in all metal, but I think after using the GB for awhile, you can begin to use the ground balance, ground phase numbers and Fe meter in addition to the ID arc in all metal to learn more about the target. Just a guess.

I am going coin hunting tomorrow at a 1940ish school and will be using my XL-Pro and small coil, but will be marking some targets ( both iron and non-iron ) and going back over them with the GB to see how it ID's them in all metal.
