After work had a short 45min beach hunt at a lake where thay are doing the winter drawdown. Didn’t find anything earth shattering, but the ’83 quarter was laying on the surface one foot offshore. Can you say “virgin territory”? This Sat. back I go Hi-Ho, with the CZ20 in tow, to get wet.

Now this trip was the first time I had a problem GB’ing the Excel. Using my SOP, turn on check VDC, go to AM and check area, I then tried to GB right at waters edge. Got 4 beeps in response, tried several more times, no go. The tell tale symptom that things were not right was that trying to use PP showed the whole ground as a large target, so hunting would have been futile. So, changed menu to FP, and rechecked with PP, still no go. Finally turn machine off, move slightly inland and re-GB, good to go.

Last time it happened in real wet, mineralized soil.......I moved everywhere & still got 4 beeps. I know this really had folks all worried when it first came out, but Fisher assured us it was normal & that FP was the way to go on sites like this. So, I just went to FP, and simply boosted up my sensitivity to 7 & dropped disc back to 00 & it worked well with the fixed balance.....
