Do you guys GB at every site you detect? Is that like the FIRST thing you do when arriving? Probably a stupid question. But I am just now learning this f-4 machine.
Oh I do live in High Iron area...

The F4 has preset GB in All-Metal Discrimination mode and Discrimination mode.

The Auto Tune mode should be ground balanced every time you use it. (Note: There is not Tone/Target ID in Auto tune mode, and you can not discriminate.)

From the manual
The AUTO TUNE mode must be ground-balanced to eliminate interfering
signals from soil minerals. See the section on ground balancing for a
description of this procedure.

Good luck, HH

so if you are in regular mode when do you need to balance. There is a knob so I figure it has to be turned some time right?

Well the mode that comes up when you turn it on or when you hit the disc button is preset. You can test this by turning the knob.

If you hit the Auto tune all metal button then you will want to GB, this mode gets depth and allows you to GB and you can set a threshold but you get no TID or Discriminate or tones.

When I first got the detector I used to use the quick GB method explained in the manual before entering any mode... I dont think it will hurt anything if you want to GB it, but I also dont think it will matter. I use mine with the nob in the preset position 100% now unless I use that auto tune mode. Its pretty easy to test turn the nob when in disc mode.
