Gave myself and the time ranger a workout

Hey all.I spent 3 hours today under the bleachers of a large high school. I have worked this area hard before, with another time ranger, lone star, and fisher cz70.No gold today, but I have pulled two pieces of 18k (one ring, one pendant) before) The target masking is unreal, even with the 4" coil.I run with sens at minimum, and still have to hold the coil at least 3" above the ground,to be able to isolate the signals. The amount of targets is staggering! In 3hrs I dug:86 coins,53 pull tabs,2 pcs of junk jewlery, and a nice"cross" pen.My one day record for pull tabs at this site, was over 300! This type of hunting is a nice break from some of my surf hunting, when even working in all metal mode you can go for 20 minutes without hearing anything. I was hoping to find some gold ,to pay for my next Virginia relic hunt.Call me crazy, but I would much rather dig up civil war relics than gold jewlery.Happy hunting, and keep digging those pull tabs.

Sounds like you're having a good time with the Time Ranger. I just got a Time Ranger and have had it out only once (didn't find anything but junk). I'm trying to find places to hunt. The parks here are off limits and I believe the schools are to. With money being in short supply, I can't travel very far to hunt. Also the weather has been cold and wet lately.

Dkstr62,
I would try asking some people to hunt on their private property or if you have woods in your area that our not privately owned hunt there. Just be observant of any signs that designate it as private property or any other restrictions. You might check at public office buildings to see if there are any restrictions to hunting the front lawn of public buildings after hours. At some state parks the rangers might let you hunt there if you ask. You might need to get a permit for a small fee. Never hurts to ask private property owners all they can do is tell you no. Some of them may let you hunt if you are willing to give them any family heirloom or personal items you find and just keep the coins you find. Just some thoughts. Good luck.

So there's actually a complete ban on metal detecting in your parks. I'm new to this hobby and I would like to know just what the percentage is of parks (excluding federal) across the US that has complete bans on detecting. Anyone have any idea?

County Parks are off limits (not sure about the schools) also a lot National Park land here. There is an old campground just a 3 minute drive from my house but it belongs to the county park service. I live between Williamsburg (whole city off limits to MD'ing) and Jamestown (National Park). I've been wanting to go to Virginia Beach but don't have the money for that right now (It sucks being unemployed). I'm sure that I will find a place to hunt.
