Gas Lantern??

Can anyone tell what this is? Possibly a gas lantern? It measures 4 1/2 inches high by 3 inches wide. The glass is very thick. The base is very heavy.

Fuel water trap. Very common on farm equipment.
You unscrew the knob, flip the wire to one side, and remove the bowl to dump out the water and crap that it caught. There should be an inlet and outlet.

It's an older automotive, glass-bowl type fuel filter. Here's a pic of one from a 1940 Chevy, just for comparison:

Best of luck,

Fuel filter/water separator it is. This one more than likely was on a tractor or other engine that had a visible fuel tank.
The filter fastened directly to the bottom of the fuel tank and the short piece of hose should be the outlet that went to the carburetor.
Nice find but it is upside down. <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
