Garrett's Ace 250 vs GTP 1350

Is the GTP 1350 worth the additional $300 over the Ace 250?

Will be hunting primarily in the woods, but also want to be able to use in up to a foot of water if possible...

The GTP 1350 has more features then the Ace 250. Check if you have a need for the extra features. More feature doesn't necessarily mean more finds. I couldn't get more in ground depth out of the GTP 1350 then out of the Ace. In other ground the results may be different due to the ground tracking of the GTP.

How about the GTI-1500? Is it superior in performance to the Ace or GTP-1350 or just more bells & whistles?

Didn't mean to hijack your thread, Dellison; sorry :sadwalk: I'm also considering a 1350 or 1500...

The GTI 1500 can use the 5x10 scorcher DD coil, the GTP and Ace can not.
That alone is the reason i have a GTI 1500. Over bad soil this 5x10 DD is a must have coil for better depth, target ID and separation. If a coil like that would be available for the Ace 250 i would buy one in a second. With a coil like that the Ace would beat high priced detectors in mineralised soil on depth.
The GTI 1500 and GTP 1350 have the same performance and ground tracking.
The GTI can size ONLY with the imaging coils, but has true depth and size. The GTP can size with ANY coil but doesn't have true depth and size. That means the GTP will see a deep coke can as a small target and the GTI will see it as a deep large target.
The sizing or better profiling on the GTP is not really necessary, because the GTAx1250 could already size by the long, medium or short tone.

The Ace has some advantages over the GTI and GTP detectors....yes, hard to believe. The Ace is very lightweight uses only 4AA batteries and has a faster recovery speed than the more expensive Garretts. If Garrett would make a 5x10 DD coil for the Ace i would sell the GTI 1500.

If Garrett would make an Ace based detector with a true all metal mode of the GTI 2500 and ground tracking and a 5x10 DD available for it, it would kill there own GTI sales.

Except for imaging on one and profiling on the other they are identical machines. the 1250/1350/1500 are all the same except for features.

Unless you need or want the extra features on the GTP the 250 will serve you well and if you add the Sniper coil and the 12 incher you will be pretty well covered and you can hunt in shallow water. Being able to add a DD coil, as was mentioned, only benefits you if your ground is highly mineralized. Otherwise a standard coil of the same size will serve the same purpose.

If you mostly coinshoot, which I do, the GTI1500's true size and depth is worth the extra expense. However, my ACE250 with the sniper coil is worth more than its weight in gold for the really trashy sites!

I was thinking about trading down to an Ace 250, but I realized I am not willing to give up some of the features that make my other detector such a great machine. Things such as 24 notches & true all metal mode, etc. If I was just starting out, however, and didn't get used to all of these features I would go with the ACE.

Good Luck!
