Garrette 250 Ace

New member
I have been a Tesoro user untill I traded my Conquistador in on a garrette ace 250.I am having trouble using it .The first time I took it out I was very happy with it but do have trouble pinpointing with it.Sometimes I hear something sounds like a coin so i dig and turn my clump over then the sound quits. Its as if nothing is there and Im sure i heard a good sound. What is that all about.Ive been detecting for quite awhile.just cant get use to it I guess. Thanks for any help. Quizpro

Could your detector possibly be falsing? I have a Ace 250 and mine does that too. It could be associated with alot of factors such as ground minerals.

I think you could be right.i took it out in my yard and got a lot of falsing .I turned down the sensitivity and it helped a very little bit. What else can i do about that?

Turn the sensitivity down to about five. Too high and you can get the falsing. Also what kind of ground are you searching in?

I have had my Ace 250 going on six years and never a false signal.
As for pin pointing, that was once an issue for me as well but I have long since gotten used to it.

Also when I first got my Ace 250 I had a hard time finding my target; after digging and making a bigger hole than I would like to
admit to, I just assumed it was a false signal. It turned out the target was there but without a good handheld pin pointer
I could not find it. That all ended when I finally bought a cheap pin pointer and later up graded to the Garrett Pro pointer.

i can pinpoint a coin really close with the 1500, get 90* and hit it again. i will be the first to admit, a pinpointer is expensive, but a necessity in MHO. i found out real quick, i could not hardly see the coins, after i got the hole open. i didn't feel too bad, after finding out my 19yo grandson can not hardly find them without, ''papaw, lend me the pinpointer''. i ended up getting him his own,,

Wow. You guys must be trying for China! I hardly ever raise my sensitivity above 3 bars showing. Hit a quarter at 5-6" at sens. 4 bars, stopped and turned the sens. down to 3 bars and the signal was not as spastic-clearer and steady.

i have mine set at 2 bar if the ground is wet and 3 if the ground is dry never over 4 bars at 5 is starts falsing so i back it down to 3 or 4 and swing slow
thats what works for me

I'm new to this forum. Are there posts that describe mods for the Ace 250?
Thanks!

Here are a couple of videos on pinpointing with the Ace 250. Pay particular attention to detuning the detector to zero in on a target.
The Ace 250 pinpoints very well but you have to use it a while to get it down.

I have a hunch you know how to pinpoint properly. My guess now is that the target seems to disappear on you once you open the hole up some.

IF/when this happens to you again, give this a try.

Start to recover the target like you always have in the past. IF, you now no longer hear the target which you heard only moments ago, switch to the ALL METAL mode on the detector. You will now hear it, even though it doesnt come in on the target ID like it used to when you first heard it and before you began to dig. You should be able to locate the metal item now.

Let us know how this does for you.

Best of luck
Tony

I have a problem with 2CO 4:18...Those 6" zincolns in fertilized fields are unseen, but left to their own demise are definitely NOT eternal...lol

HH,

until you hear it beep 2 times (with the unit powered on). This returns it to factory settings.
Mine falsed alot after I had it 2-3 months & the reset cured it.

set your sensitivy to four, and notch out everything left of the nickel, you should not get any false signals HH Wayne

Thanks.I will try that.Im starting to like it a lot more than I did .I have went deeper with it than my other detectors and found about 5 or 6 wheat pennys i had missed in my daughters yard and one in my yard. Also went to a park and found a glass bottle stopper couldnt dig deep enough in the hole to see what caused the beep but I also found an old skeleton key there I think it may be an old homestead.I am amazed at how deep it goes.

You are right .I dont know how many times this has happened.I thought maybe this detector is so sensitive that it reads the target from side to side farther away.I dont know if Im explaining it right.Anyway I will definatly try with the all metal mode. Thanks a lot.
